Me and my brother got in an argument, about smoking, and he says EVERYONE (not even joking, he really means everyone) 'starts' smoking to be cool. nothing more. Thats the flat end of it. I can attest that some people doing it to be cool when your 15 or some shit. But peronally it relaxes me and I like a cig when I drink.

But why did you start in the first place GD?
You don't start smoking because you think it'll help you relax because it doesn't. It increases your heart rate. You only smoke to relax because you need to once you've started. The only reason to actually start smoking in the first place is because you want to fit in with those around you so your brother is for the most part correct.

I'm going to have to agree. There is no reason to start smoking. You do it because you want to, because other people are doing it.

Both smoking and drinking are short term life arrangements...

No offense GD, but your brother in your case is right, i don't believe that any teenager ever starts smoking because of stress, it's always because of being cool.

I don't really have a problem with those ********s who slightingly claim that people start smoking to be cool. Know why? Smoking is cool. That's why people ****ing do it. Iggy Pop smokes cigarettes. Julian Casablancas smokes cigarettes (probably because of Iggy Pop, but still). James Dean and Humphrey Bogart--they both smoked! (Before, you know, they died.) Cigarettes are rock and roll. They're cool, and they always will be. They lend the smoker confidence, machismo, bravura, and an air of defiant detachment the strident anti-tobacco banshees can't possibly understand. Just let us smoke in peace. We'll leave you alone if you want, but stop preaching, okay? It's getting obnoxious.

I actually started from my parents. The always smoked around me and I figured whats so bad about it. Then I took one from my parents liked it, didn't cough like most say they do. I also enjoyed it at first cause at first it made me light headed, I know thats not good. But to each their own, my only point being just cause you smoke doesnt mean you do it to be cool. Im not justifying smoking, I'm just giving reasons other than 'being cool' for smoking. And personally gabe it did relax me, even when I first started.
