Default Windows XP SP2 Update...

Well anyways i got a hand on SP2 the other day and installed it. And wow finally some good changes. SP2 has a much better Firewall and Firewall options now.

Also the Wireless Networking has been dramatically improved and works much better.

It also monitors your Anti-Virus if you have one and Windows Update much better.

I would say the biggest changes have been made with the Security Settings, there has also been an added Security Setting and Firewall Setting in Control Panel.

Everyone needs to get SP2. It's official release is supposed to be August 26 or 27th if i'm not mistaken.

As i go through hopefully i'll find some more nice changes.

Anyone else get a chance to check it out and found something cool, just post it here.

I didn't find something cool other than what you spoke of. The transition was smooth on both comps I installed it on, and the systems run generally faster. Yay!

Yeah i especially liked the installation, much simpler and straight forward, compared to SP1.

How do I know if I already got it? My PC is setup to automatically download and install updates. When I go to the Windows Update page and scan, theres no SP2.

Read my whole post SP2's official release on Microsofts Update will be end of August.

But you can get a direct link to SP2 which is directly on Microsofts Website just not posted anywhere.

It's about 250+mb!

So if you didn't install it youself you don't have it. I don't like Automatic Update on mine.

Sounds good, I'll have to download it ASAP.

While we're talking computer talk here, I have a question for some of you people "in the know" about computers. While I am on msn messenger, I often file transfer with friends, etc., but for some reason, I cannot send files to one friend of mine (actually the same thing happened with another friend too) who owns a mac. Now, he can send files to me just fine, and he can also receive files from everybody else (PC users included) on his msn buddies list. So I'm wondering what the deal is with my msn, or is it my computer? The thing is, I didn't have this problem on my older computer (we just got a new one this summer). I'm thinking it may have something to do with Windows XP possibly? Because I was running Windows 2000 on the older computer. I've searched through all my msn preferences, but there's nothing there. I'm quite sure it has to do with my system. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This many times happens on AIM also.

It's usually caused through a Hardware Firewall, like a Router.

It's really configuration setting of a Firewall.

Ok, thanks Dmitry. Although I did have the exact same router before we got our new computer, settings could have possibly been "reset" when we got the computer? I don't know, I'll give it a try though, thanks.

Just noticed but SP2 also gave me a pop-up blocker for SP2 in IE.
