Doesn't radiohead want to make you slit your wrists, or failing that slit their wrists?

Radiohead's good. I look for anything that's going to be a trip, anything with a little texture. Really anything you listen to when you're high is going to sound wonderful. Electric Wizard is fun. Queens of the Stone Age, APC, Dredg--those are some of my other favorites. Good, lyrically-driven rap is also a blast to listen to when you're stoned. Aesop Rock. Cannibal Ox. Anything classical, of course--even if you don't know a lot about music, you can feel how it develops when you're high. Feel the subtlety. Classical's great for that.
There are a couple bands I really don't appreciate when I'm stoned. The first few times I smoked I listened to Tool, anticipating great things, and I was disappointed. It's too abrasive. It freaks me out. I like a trip, but Tool's just relentless. Some of my worst experiences with pot were triggered by unfriendly tunes. Bands that write really bare, skeletal music tend also to be less than satisfying. Cake, for instance--I love Cake, but when you're high it's just not the kind of music you're looking for. It's too cerebral; it just ends up confusing you. ![]()
