If you want to get super technical, the argument could be made that either term could be appropriate, even though break is the word that is commonly accepted in that context.

However, there is no context in which anything you have to say seems even remotely intelligent, so you might want to can the smartass remarks.

I wasn't lying about getting out of detention with that excuse, I pretended to almost faint when i was being told off, said my head hurts and got to leave.
