There are over 250 languages spoken in NYC.
Seattle doesn't have shit on our diversity. |

Just to agitate Voice, I don't like Seattle much at all. It's way too congested. The traffic there is worse than it is in Los Angeles, and that's saying an awful lot...
Portland's the shit, though. It's got about half a million inhabitants, so it's not very big at all, but it has all the culture you'd expect from a city maybe three times its size. It's clean, too, and crime isn't even an issue. It feels more like an urban village than a city, which I like; I like that feeling a lot. And despite what you may have heard, there's no weed in the country that's better than Oregon's. ![]()

Good luck with everything Antonio.
Personally I don't think I could ever stand to live in that big of city after growing up in a town of around 7000. I've visted a couple times and it was a nice place, but waaaay too crowded for me. I love living out in the country and having lots of wide open space. I wouldn't mind a city a little bigger than where I currently live but nothing anywhere near as big as NYC. |

Best of Luck, Antonio! That will be one hell of an experience, take care!
In a few months, me and a few friends are doing a summer road trip. As much money as we can fit in our wallets, two pairs of clothes, and an SUV. Just packing our things, and driving. Still haven't decided which coast to head for. We've been planning this forever, because its the summer before we all part ways with college and all. I know this isn't the same as moving, but I think everyone should try to get a new view on life by experiencing it in a different place. Just getting up one day and deciding to see something new, man life is to short to waste! Enjoy your move and your stay Antonio!

That is good advice Rebel. I believe that young people should at least experience a road trip once in their life. However, in my area it just isn't something most people think about. I did luck out before when I was a teen and was flown out to CA for a week, but that was not like the experience I would have gotten if I'd went on my own or with friends to just soak up the culture.
Most of the time I was on a hot ass set (all the lights) shooting for 10 or more hours a day. I did get to move around the last couple of days and enjoy LA, but like I said, nothing especially memorable. I mostly shopped for clothes and looked into some agencies, but my resume was pretty lean at the time since that was my first entertainment gig. I like your attitude. You should go -- and just randomly choose a coast. I don't believe you can go wrong if you're just visiting for the summer anyway.

Odin - Oregon gets all their buds from Washington.
I lived in Seattle, and traffic can be a pain, that's why I took the bus or rode my bike everywhere. And when you get into the surrounding areas of seattle like greenlake and stuff, it's an amazing place. Portland I didn't like too much, I went there for a few concerts, and the crouds there have always been *******s....I've gotten in more fights in Oregon than I have everywhere else I've been combined. 8 of the 10 serious fights i've been in have been in Oregon, and I didn't start any of them. Arnold - I won't say anything comparitively because I've never been to New York, All I was saying was that Seattle is very diverse in it's people as well....

.....THAT'S hilarious!I'm very comfortable where I live. Abbotsford, BC is about a city of 130,000 people - a small city. Plus I only live 45mins away from Vancouver, which is about 1 million people. I don't think I'd even like to live in the downtown of Vancouver, I'm not a big fan of the congestion either. Regarding Seattle, I've been there many-a time (Washington is just south of where I live, and Seattle is about 2.5hrs. away from Abbotsford). Beautiful city indeed, the space-needle ROCKS!! I have yet to see a Supersonics game, although I've seen a few Mariners games as well as a Seahawks one. I've been to Portland a number of times as well. I totally agree with the "urban village" feel of the city, I like it a lot. I was there just a few weeks ago to see a Trailblazers game, and strolled around downtown - very clean city indeed (although I may not have seen any of the slums of the city - every city has them). Which reminds me, I just finished reading a book by Jonathan Kozol called Amazing Grace. Some of you may have heard of it. Anyways, he addresses numerous inner-city issues, and his main spot of interest was Mott Haven located in the Bronx of New York City. A very eye-opening read indeed! Wow, that book just made me realize how awful it is for some people to live in the poorest parts of cities. If you haven't read the book, I'd recommend it. As for travelling, my family is huge on travelling. We've driven across Canada (took a 5 week vacation for it). Part of that trip was to New York City (back in 1997). It was so wierd viewing home video of that trip, with the Twin Towers still standing there - crazy. But New York City was a very interesting experience for me. We mainly stayed in the downtown core, walking the streets a bit, pretty much seeing the touristy spots like Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. I think I've counted it before, but my family and I have been to 21 or 22 different U.S. states, which is pretty amazing since I live in Canada. But I love seeing these different parts, and travelling is definitely an awesome experience. I plan on going to Europe next summer (if I have enough cash...) - hopefully tour Spain, France, Italy, and maybe hit up England on the way home...totally looking forward to it (sorry for the long post...had a lot to say)

Good luck Antonio, I hope you find the perfect place.
By the way, over here in our capital you could pay £450 plus for a 1 bedroom apartment. That's about $800 U.S. I'd love to visit NY or Seattle as they both look like really interesting cities. One city I wouldn't want to visit though is Detroit. Is it really as rough as it is portrayed? From what I've heard about it I'd be seriously concerned for my safety if I had to go there.
