Exclamation Metroid: The Movie

John Woo has optioned Nintendo's best-selling video game franchise Metroid for the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter. Woo will produce the sci-fi movie and has the option to direct. Terence Chang and Brad Foxhoven will share production responsibilities. Lion Rock Productions' Suzanne Zizzi also is attached to the project.

The plan is to release the first film before 2006. The movie will center on the origins of the game's female protagonist, sexy bounty hunter Samus Aran, and relate her adventures battling the insidious life-sucking Metroids and their controlling force, Mother Brain.

"We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property," Foxhoven said. "As for the rest of the film, we will stay true to the game and have Samus battling the Metroids and Mother Brain in a fight for control of the galaxy."

All I have to say is **** YES!!!!!!!!!

John Woo is the SHIZZLE FO' RIZZLE!!!!!!!

Here's hoping he does a good job with the franchise. I'm a newly-made Metroid fan (after getting Zero Mission), so this should be pretty cool.

Um, how many game based movies were good? Considering the game-turned-box office-flops of the past, all I can hope for is that they don't drastically change the Metroid story(ies) for the sake of ticket sales.

Please don't rape my Samus...

Wtf? I can not possibly see Metroid (a kick-ass game) being made into a kick-ass movie. Hopefully they'll prove my imagination wrong..I can't imagine them making an interesting fight out of Samus shooting a giant, stationary brain on-screen..or the floating metroids..the pirates could be cool though..Wow me John Woo, wow me.

I doubt I'll be checking this one out. I'm not really a big fan of John Woo and like Gamer X said there isn't exactly a long history of great game based movies...

John Woo is a god among men!!!

How could you doubt him?!?

I think Metroid could be turned into a really cool movie. That is if it's taken seriously.....I think the fight between the brain and Samus could be awesome....I can picture like thousands of little metroids swooping down on her...crawling around on the ground, and she's just going nuts doing the super somersault jump all over the place running the gauntlet of baddies, blasting away....and then the camera swoops through the dark and musty corridors floor, going past thousands of metroids....and pans up to reveal the giant brain.....then Samus is like "HO........LY.......SHIT!"

BLAMM BLAMM BLAMM BLAMM!!!!!

On the action side, John Woo never lets me down, and that's what Metroid is all about.

And hey, Mortal Kombat was a pretty cool movie by the way...at least I like it alot. The sequel sucked though....

This has gotten me into thinking about what game could really make a really interesting and unique movie....

The Legend Of Zelda.

For Sure.
