I thought Pirates of the Carribean was a great film and Depp's performance was fantastic.

I've not seen Mystic River but from the clips I have seen he didn't deserve to win over Depp.

The best actor award should go to the most entertaining. In all the films I've seen in 2003 that would be Depp.

I don't think it deserved best movie of the year or best director... But whatever.

Mystic River was good. Lost in Translation was boring.

Mystic River acting = win.

I'm a HUGE fan of Johnny Depp...but it wasn't an Oscar worthy performance....it wasn't that kinf of a movie....or that kind of a performance.

besides...it's an honor just to get nominated....think how you would feel if you were up for an oscar...for doing a disney movie...based on a theme park ride....and acting like a pirate in a comical fashion.

I'd be ****ing ELATED.

Lost in translation was AMAZING.

I saw it last weekend and I didn't get it. Sure there was a nice relationship, but most of the time was a "scene showing man in middle-life crisis" or "scene showing young lady worrying about life".

Yawn.

thumbs up for the soundtrack though.

I thought RoTK, and the Lord of the Ring series in general were a bit overrated, and certainly didn't think it was the best movie this year. I can think of three of the nominated movies that I would voted for over it: Mystic River (which would have recieved my vote), Lost in Translation, and Seabiscuit (though I'm in the minority there).

I agree. I think Seabiscuit was an amazing little film about the triumph of human spirit. Certainly one of the more uplifiting flicks that came out this year. I would've liked to see it come up with more than just a nomination. And people were calling it the "longshot"... I don't see why. It was extremely good.
