Default Woman dies from watching Passion of Christ

Woman Collapses During Showing of "The Passion Of The Christ"
Wichita
KAKE News

A woman collapsed in an East Wichita theatre this morning, during a showing of "The Passion Of The Christ". Peggy Law apparently suffered a heart attack. She was pronounced dead a short time later at a Wichita medical center.

Peggy Law, also known to some by her married name Peggy Scott is a respected figure in the local broadcasting community. The tragedy has hit some here at KAKE especially hard. She was a former employee.

People viewing the movie at the Warren Theatre East say Law collapsed during the portion of the movie where the crucifixion of Christ was shown.

A few off-duty doctors and nurses who were in the audience tried to revive her. But when she was taken away in the ambulance, authorities say Law still had no pulse.

The movie has been criticized for it's graphic portrayal of Jesus' death. Religious leaders around the country and here in Wichita say people need to be prepared for the graphic brutality.

Whether Law's death and the timing in the film are related, we will never know, but religious and medical officials stress this film is not for the faint-hearted.

It was proven to be caused by the movie itself?

EDIT: As in, she died because what she saw was too graphic?

How could you prove something like that? You can't exactly ask her. Still really sad though . If anyone goes to see this movie (I did tonight, very good. I posted my response to it in the "Are You Going to See The Passion of the Christ" Thread) be prepared for a TON of blood and gore.

Well you can obviously check to see her current health state before the movie, and they should be able to run tests to see if an artery was blocked or how the rest of her internal workings are. If they come to the conclusion she was in perfect health, then the movie may have had a strong influence. If she was overweight or had high levels of cholesterol, then chances are the movie didn't play a large role.

Exactly, people are too hasty to jump to conclusions...even though it may be a slight possibility.

the movie could have been the crossing point to her heart attack if she was in mild health though, as it may have excited her body into rushing her circulatory system, causing the greater risk of the heart attack. But if the movie did that, then it could have been sparked by anything that got her heart beating too fast. But at the time, the only factor would probably be the movie (or the excessively buttered popcorn), so it would have techically aided in her death.

I think she just had a heart-attack.....If it was the movie that did it, there'd be more than one occurance.

well, it most likely was just a heart attack, but it still could have been affected by the movie. different people react differently to circumstances. if she was upset at all by what she saw in the movie, it might have made her body to increase horomone production which could have increased risk of heart attack.

but i wouldnt doubt it was just her own health.

I'm sure lots of people die at theater and it goes unreported. This is just reported because the film is controversial.

I remember when Blair Witch was at the theater, and I was working there, lots of people fell sick, and we had to call the ambulance for certain people.
