Default The human mind amazes me.....

So I'm sitting here listening to some music today...nothing else going on, just put in KoRn, self titled debut. An amazing album, which hasn't been in rotation in my cd player for quite some time.

Then it hit me, the human mind is ****ing amazing, way beyond what we can even think of ourselves.

What I mean is this, I can remember every single word....I haven't listened to this album in like a year...but i've listened to it so much in the past that every word is right there in my mind....as soon as the music starts it's like all the words pop into my head and I can sing them right when they are supposed to be there.

Then I started thinking about all the other cd's I can do this to, korn, deftones, powerman 5000, white zombie, slipknot, mudvayne, depeche mode, limp bizkit, linkin park, etc. etc.....way too many bands to list.

take the number of songs on each album, and the number of albums that band has....I mean I have a catalogue of lyrics stuck in my brain thousands of songs long.

Yet without that music there, I could only bring up the lyrics to MAYBE half of those, most likely less....

It just hit me like, that is just one operation that my brain does that I really never gave a second thought to, and maybe it's because it's always been there.

I'm just wondering how common that is...I mean maybe someone who can't do that would find it more amazing than I do....but being able to do it is what amazes me....I just assume that everyone else can as well.....

It's common man. Back in 1989, when I was mowing lawns during summer to keep up my NES habit (LOL!), I listened to the Public Enemy Tape (back then...LOL!!): It takes a Nation of Millions....almost everytime I did anything. You put that CD in a player today, I will go all out on you. I know almost all the lyrics from 1st track to the last. It's insane....that's why I now have a CD of it.....one of the best CD of the 20th century and my ultimate fav...hands down.

I think I take it all a step further though, because not only do I know all that music....(I forgot to mention all the rap i know...outkast,eminem,wu-tang clan,jay-z,DMX,snoop Dogg, dr. dre, tupac, vanilla ice....YES VANILLA ICE....)

But I go beyond all that, I can recite Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Four Rooms.....Fight Club....countless movies.....word for word.

but when it comes to things like mathematics, and other school stuff, I just can't remember it longer than I need to. Like I can remember all that info from a book....as long as I need it....but I forget it as soon as I am done with the test.

But all this other stuff movies,music....how to play music....it all sticks.

Example 1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Now, I hadn't seen this movie since It came out in theaters....and I was watching it a few months back....I knew EVERY SINGLE WORD TO THE TURTLES SONG THAT VANILLA ICE DID.....I hadn't heard that song since I saw the movie...but when I saw the movie I just remembered the lyrics to it...and they stayed in my memory.

Through all the pot smoking...alchohol....mushrooms....LSD....Ecstasy. ...I can still remember all this shit.

THAT can't be common.

Ahhh the lyrical brilliance that was "Ninja Rap"......

Anyway, no I don't really think that's uncommon, I can recite the lyrics to pretty much every CD I own, even ones that I haven't listened to in years. I can't remember useful things like names, dates, or phone numbers, but I can rattle off stupid obscure stuff like sports statistics and musical lyrics with no trouble. Helps in school at times though since I remember of lot of crap that I've learned in history or science classes dating back to like 5th grade and on...

Yeah. Something like 3000 songs in my Winamp library, and I know at least 2000 of them by hard. Isn't it downright insane how deep our memories are?

I can also recite movies and etc. too. You gotta' love the brain.

Classical Conditioning.

One popular use for this is to chew gum while you are learning something then when you go into the exam, chew gum and your brain will associate this action with the relevant data in your head.

Your ears hear the music and your brain connects this to the relevant lyrics in you brain.

Neat stuff.

I'm more of a numbers man than words

Did you know....

Scientists have surmized that the Human Mind has the mental capacity to remember every set of numbers of every license plate of every car that you have seen in you're entire life, with enough memory left over to remember which car they were from?

Scary shit...

*Edit.... Damnit, you people might not believe me. I'll try to find a link to a site posting the article. I think I read it in a Newsweek a few years ago.

It's probably true. It was my goal at one point to memorize pi to 100 decimal points: 3.1415926535 etc...

I got to about 30 a few summers ago and just kind of quit. It'd be a cool thing to just show off with. I enjoy impressing people by saying the alphabet backwards in 3 seconds.
