Charleton Heston doesn't run the NRA anymore. Wayne LaPierre heads it now.

anyway, all the NRA does is promote gun safety and try to protect our right to own and use firearms.

I understand the sentiment, Gabriel, but I think the staggering amount of violence in this country connected to firearms should give you pause. Here's something: our firearm mortality rate is *eight times higher* than that of every other high-income nation combined. I wish our gun laws were more like yours. Not that I know what they are, but I suspect they're a little more restrictive.

I'm looking forward to the primaries, too, Matt. I'm thrilled that Kerry's finally caught fire; I think he makes a wonderful candidate. He's so graceful, and he's definitely got the credibility. Whenever he speaks, he just seems presidential. Anyway, I think he's by far the most appealing--Dean's too angry, Lieberman's an idiot, and I think Clark's committment to the Democratic party is questionable. I find Edwards appealing, too, but I don't think he's got enough political experience, and I think he's a flake--that's not to say I don't think he's reliable, but I don't know that I'd feel safe if John Edwards were president. He'd make a wonderful VP (and a Kerry-Edwards ticket would be very, very strong), but I think Kerry's tougher, and I like that about him. He's graceful, but he's also strong.
