One word....actually one website. www.tweakxp.com

This site solved some of my biggest issues with XP. I was a loyal 98SE user before. Got XP home on my custom comp back in Aug. The little things that bugged me:

Turn off main sounds if I'm listing to music = damn onboard speaker beeping everytime I get a IM. Solved!

Damn XP forgetting my folder options whenever it felt like it (Thumbnail view) Solved.

The tweak to min Outlook to the tray.....solved! (I love that one)

To disable some stupid services that can get my PC hacked....solved.

How to speed up searches through my pron files and folders...opppsss....LOL.... LOL Solved! (Thank you tweak XP! )

All in all, it's a great site to learn some XP tweaks. I still have some issues going on with XP, but the biggest tweak is from Lazer....."Da Man!" XP only allows a min of "2" downloads per internet site. With that tweak....I can now download up to 15 or sometimes 20 downloads from one web page at a time Still thanking you man for that.

Another good source is not even online. Maximum PC mag helped me out also. Downloading Zone Alarm and some XP tweaks from them made my comp run better and faster. Hat's off!

It's a great site. I'm still tweaking my XP home system now. Check out security in that web page.....about some services that you don't need running. Security hazard bigtime..... Once fixed, everything is golden.

If I upgrade the OP system on the PC at home, will I have to re-install all the other programs?

well, if you're like me, with something like windows 98, upgrading to xp (home or pro), if you upgrade, it will keep everything, but will give you a detailed list (which i found so useful, and like i said, very detailed) of programs and hardware and things on your computer that may need to be reinstalled, or updated, drivers that need replacing, and programs that need patches to work with xp.

Also, if you have a good connection to the net, try running Windows Update and it will find some drivers that may have needed updating to work thanks to changing to XP.
Very useful..
after that, just do aa bunch of tweaks to set your pc up the way you like.

If you choose the feature i believe is 'Full Install' or something, i think it formats your harddrive, or lets you make a partition to create a dual OS system. Upgrading is a lot better IMO if you want to save all your files and stuff.

I already took care of a few minor things that bothered me, such as performance stuff, and that annoying system beep, but not much of security.. do you have any sec tweaks you suggest?
