This was mentioned in one of todays newspapers over here. Apparently Microsoft face a maximum fine of $2.2 trillion after breaking a security promise made to the Federal Trade Commission last summer. Instead of doing as they agreed and protecting 200 million of it's Passport accounts they've admitted that they didn't actually do anything, leaving the accounts vulnerable to hackers. Now they face a maximum fine of $11,000 per account.
It's a good job they haven't spent the last couple of years losing money on their console, isn't it? |

Interesting but this belongs in the off-topic section.

I imagine there must of been some kind of security breach in the first place (I remember Microsoft being hacked, not sure if it was about this though), as it said they agreed to sort things out last summer. So I suppose something must of happened which brought Microsoft's lack of security to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission, and they were then given a few months to sort it. Which they didn't.
It'd be nice if Passport account holders got a piece of that $11,000, wouldn't it? Especially seeing as I think I've got one . The thought of somebody being able to read all my fake diploma and free porn spam leaves me feeling so violated ![]() |

I could do with a share of $11 000. I think AOL should be sued as well. Firstly because it's so shit and secondly because I seem to get pop ups which say AOL leaks data which can be viewed by other people and I think thats the same as the Microsoft problem?!?!
