I bought God of War and when I tried to play the disk this happened.
"Reading Disk..." it only said it once then had "No Data" I then cleaned the disk and the lens of the PS2 system. I tried it again. "Reading Disk... Reading Disk... Reading Disk..." Then it said something like "Disk read error" I tried another game I owned and it worked fine, it found the disk without any problems...and that disk had nicks all over it. I tried the God of War disk again...once again it read the disk once and stop like there was no disk even in there. I went back to the store got a different disk and low and behold it read the disk once and still was unable to read the disk. I even rented it from the video store with no luck of getting it to read the disk. Well theres the story...has anyone else incounter a simmilar problem? If so how did you fix it. Recap information: God of War disk was unable to be read. Read all my other games just fine. Tried other God of War Disks. PS2 in 2+ years old |

Usually, the longer it takes for a game to load, the closer to death the PS2 is. But if you've only had it for 2 years, I don't think it should be there just yet... However, it is true that more graphically intensive games, especially ones that kick off with intense cinematics, have more difficulty loading on old PS2s. That could be it. When you put in the other games, does it take very long for them to load? How long is the browser screen there before the game starts?

Giddy up, bitch!

That sounds familar. It sound a lot like mine right before it died. For awhile only certain games would mess it up, then it gradually got worse and worse until it finally totally crapped out on me (and, in a cruel act of vengence, took my poor, defenseless MLB 2k5 disc with it).

If that's the case, I'd suggest trying another copy of GoW II. If it happens again, I can only conclude it's your system, unfortunately. But it sounds to me like it's a problem with the game.

i agree with Ben, i say this because i take it that GOW2 isnt a blue disk.....
and the blue disks are the first to go DRE (im going through that at the mo.. ) ...anyway, it does sound like youre part of that .01% that have dodgy disks. if you cant take it back to the store for what ever reason, i would return it to SCEA, they would most likely replace it.

Ryan's old trick was to turn Diagnosis on. It had something to do with pressing Triangle in the PS2's menu screen.
I heard turning your PS2 upside-down can fix some Disc Read Errors also. Try it. |
