Bridge in Haven

I have been trying to swing the bridge back and forth for it to move and it just does not move.
Anyone know why? Or how I can land in the castle.

I have the walk through for this game. So I do know the answer is to run left and right, but it just doesn't work.
Maybe there is another answer to this problem.
