Bought Darksiders 2 a few weeks ago. Haven't touched it yet, and don't know if I'll ever.
Spent yesterday playing Tomb Raider, not continuing the story but I went back to 100% the other locations. I really should of tried to finish it with GOW out today.

Finished Tomb Raider tonight and I can't recommend the game enough. It's absolutely one of this generations best games. A fantastic job done by Crystal Dynamics. The puzzles aren't so hard they ruin the experience and a lot of them are optional so you can focus on the other stuff the game has on offer. The combat, the hunting, stealth, killer melee moves, plenty of climbing and exploration but not so much you lose track of the campaign and where you need to go next. The story is nothing mind blowing but does a decent enough job giving you purpose and as an origin's story it's great. Lots of collectibles to find too. Over all the action is exciting and I really hope that Naughty Dog are taking notes because the standard is set high. It's everything Uncharted 3 should of been if that makes any sense?

Tomb Raider is great but for a game that looks to be about survival, the survival aspect is nil. Ammo is plentiful and hunting is pointless beyond xp. You don't get hungry and auto recovery also kills survival feel.
In MGS3 you had to hunt to feed yourself because if you're hungry your stomach would growl and you can give away your position and hunger also affects stamina. You also had to address your wounds. |

Absolutely agree but the games controls are crap, ruining what I do believe potentially could be (Universally agreed to be...) a great game.

You can't make a game about survival that doesn't actually require you to do anything to survive. In Snake Eater you had to hunt, frequently, you had to eat what you killed almost immediately otherwise it would spoil and poison you, you often had to raid bases because you had no ammo, and hunger and wounds actually (and often drastically) affected your chances for survival. From what I've read about the new Tomb Raider, the game's survival mechanics don't much go beyond lip service that it's a game about survival. Doesn't automatically make it a bad game, but it's the kind of thing I've come to expect from Tomb Raider games, and why I stay away from them; I hate games that bill themselves as one thing and then play out as another altogether. |

Halo 4.
Either I'm getting too old to care much about shooting aliens over and over, or I'm starting to tire of the FPS genre altogether. There's nothing wrong with the game, but I find I really have to push myself to keep playing.

I'm finding myself just burnt out on FPS's altogether. I tried to play Crysis 3 and after an hour it was like meh. I don't know if that's cause just before I played Borderlands 2 for nearly 3 months, Halo 4 immediately after, Doom 3 BFG, and some of Dishonored almost entirely back to back.
Halo 4 is fun it isn't really all that long either, think it only took about 4 sittings to complete. Hit a wall in Tomb Raider, it's fun but overall repetitive, it says there is 64% complete. Don't know if that means overall or just the story, but it feels like it is dragging. Making matters worse is God of War: Ascension is starring me dead in the face. |
