Default SNES Zelda completion record smashed.

SNES Zelda completion record smashed.

In an astonishing feat of eye-wateringly intense video gaming, a gamer from Texas has majestically shattered the record for the fastest completion time of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the SNES. Achieving what many gamers would claim to be the impossible, Michael Damiani unleashed the fatal final silver arrow, laying waste to the evil Ganondorf, and subsequently completing the game in a formidable one hour, 57 minutes and 15 seconds.

Damiani was fist inspired to make the attempt after reading on a Zelda forum how a sub-2 hour game could not be achieved. He'd already been mighty close though, having achieved times of 2:05 and 2:07, so figured that with some refinement of his course of action, coupled with optimal coin and supply gathering, it might just be possible. And it was - April 9 bore witness to it and, with the aid of a trusty video tape, the feat was verified by the official score blokes at Twin Galaxies.

The times for Damiani's key game moments from the official electronic games scoreboard, Twin Galaxies, can be found below so, if you fancy your chances, dust off your Super Nintendo, whack your copy of Zelda in and see how you fare.

0:03.20 - reaches Zelda
0:06.57 - exits Hyrule Castle
0:12:24 - obtains Pendant of Courage
0:20.55 - obtains Pendant of Power
0:27.36 - obtains Pendant of Wisdom
0:29.14 - uses Pendants to obtain Master Sword
0:35.44 - appears on top of Golden Pyramid
0:46.57 - obtains 1st Maiden Gem
1:00.09 - obtains 2nd Maiden Gem
1:08.00 - obtains 3rd Maiden Gem
1:16.07 - obtains 4th Maiden Gem
1:25.08 - obtains 5th Maiden Gem
1:32.40 - obtains 6th Maiden Gem
1:34.35 - purchases "Big Bomb"
1:45.28 - obtains 7th and final Maiden Gem
1:47.04 - sets foot into Ganon's Castle
1:57.15 - delivers final blow via Silver Arrow to Ganon.

I saw that this morning at Gamespot. The article also says the guy holds the record for beating OoT in 6:45. That's really not that impressive. After reading that, I am seriously contemplating giving his OoT record a challenge. I average about 30 min. per dungeon in OoT, so it wouldn't be that hard.

However, beating LTTP in under 2 hours is a damn fine achievement. Then again, I only played about 6 hours of it on the GBA.

So you count, 30min per dungeon, 6 dungeons plus 3 in the beginning. 4:30. Now plus Final Dungeon and Final another 30min. Already 5:00. Now add the amount of time it takes you to get to a certain dungeon since you have to do something in a city sometimes before you get their. Maybe you add another 1:30.
You get 6:30. Plus their are some other things that will slow you down, like songs, walking, talking, etc...
I doubt you can beat the record but if you can prove me wrong hey i'll be happy that you could do it.

Dimitry, I'm averaging in travel time and associated item collection into dungeon time. The last time I beat the game, I got all 4 bottles and all hearts and I beat the game in a little over ten hours. I don't even need more than about 10 hearts (which I can get just by beating dungeons), and I don't need all 4 bottles either.

Next time I get a copy of OoT, I'll record my game on tape for all to see. LEAD can be my witness. The fact is I have every inch of that game mapped out. I could walk you through the game start to finish without even turning on my N64.

Either way, don't worry, Arnold, on top of the fact that I have too much on my plate to waste on playing OoT for a 50th time, I don't even currently own a N64, so it will be a while before I attempt this feat.

I beat Zelda: LTTP in about 4-5 hours and I had almost every heart. LTTP is the greatest game ever made.

We'll see, i still consider what you are saying is a little to cokcy. And you don't have to collect all hearts i'm talking about how you have to do something part of your mission just to get into the dungeon, plus you have to be pefect and fast on the song playing, every little error slows you down. I'm not saying you can't for i don't know how good you are, i just find it to be a little harder then you think.
