Well we must be coming up on about a month since launch, so with the hype faded a bit I thought I'd ask what your opinions are of the game. Is it a big step forward in terms of features? The same game as before but in HD? Or are there bits missing from the last gen that you wish were still here?
I think I have some experience with gta4 lol. My main game save (Missions, stunt jumps, hidden packages, and all the side missions + all girlfriends ect, ect is at 104 hours. I've unlocked the 100% game complete with this save.

The achivement for "Liberty City Minute" for the game story missions beat in under 30 hours is the game I'm playing now. 5 hours in and I've unlocked the 2nd island.

This is one of the best detailed games ever. Story missions are amazing and sort of mixed up in terms of gameplay. Voice acting is top notch and the music is great. I don't have a HDTV yet so I can't comment on HD.

I do miss a couple of missions (Toy Helicopter, bomb missions, and some others). It's a big game, and the island might not be as big as gta: san Andreas but it's big. The only thing I don't like is the changing of clothes. It's a bad system.

Once I'm done getting the last single player achivement, I'm going multiplayer. I've played some of it. The time limits for some achivements is nuts and the best mode is "Mafia Work" where you get jobs and you must complete it while other players are trying to do the same thing. I've hosted this game with 60min time limits and I was laughing the entire time and that was only with 2 people playing. Multiplayer is one of the best ever I played.

Also, how pronounced are the technical issues I mentioned earlier on? The "occasional repetition of car models in your immediate vicinity" as soon as you find a new vehicle, things disappearing as soon as you rotate the camera around, the framerate etc.
That's gta. Every gta had it, and gta 4 has it too. I don't mind it that much. With a game like this, the "GTA car effect" is about the only way of running the car models and I guess the next gen gta might have it fixed. There are dead spots in the game where there are 0 cars around. The camera turn is real and things do somewhat pop out but it doesn't effect gameplay.

The worst I've heard is people saying that they no longer check for cops before they do something illegal because things just spawn as soon as you turn your back, and how as soon as they grab a bike the streets are suddenly full of them. They were people who were generally dissatisfied with the game though so I was wondering what y'all thought of it, being more positive about the game and all.
See above lol.

Oh, and are there still bomb truck missions? Chase missions that you fail by not catching them in time and have to redo (including cutscenes and travelling to it)? Those are the kinds of things that turned me off the series since they went 3D.
No bomb missions such as the other games. There's a couple but not the same ones as b4. If you fail a mission you can replay it by going into your cell. This is a good and bad thing. It starts out right where the mission starts. If you died or got busted and you had armor or wasted alot of ammo, it doesn't reset.

In closing on my 50000 word post, if you beat the game and go onto the Social Club, there's "The Story Gang" section where it gives alittle detail on possible the next gta game or even the download content for the 360. It's a little, little picture.

It's done....sort of lol. I've put 104 hours into the main story to get 100% complete. I finished my 2nd way through last night (Main story line only) with just under 15 hours for the "Achivement Liberty City Minute".

With all single player achivements done, I now move onto multiplayer lol. Any takers? The 360 GTA4 crew here on the forums should do a hook up.

Cause it's a major game, and as such it got overhyped?

Well games of this calibur always tend to be overhyped. But that doesn't mean they don't deserve any.
