Default COD4 split-screen lan party

ok so i have a question, my roommate bought a ps3 and a big screen tv today along with cod4. so i'm trying to figure out if its possible to get 8 friends together and do a split-screen lan party, is this possible? or does everyone have to have a ps3 to do that? in other words does it just have to be 4 people playing eachother and the other 4 people playing themselves?

thanks for any help!

Well you got one copy of CoD4, one Ps3 and one tv. That's enough for 4 people. Multiply those ingredients by 2 and I think you'll have your answer for 8!

Ok so my question is how do you do it? How do I get 8 people playing a split screen lan party using 2 TVs, 2 ps3s and 2 COD4s?

Without having a PS3, CoD4 or knowing how it all works I can only suggest the following:

Does the PS3 have a system link cable to connect the PS3s together (or simply use the wireless connection to detect each other), and does CoD4 support that?

Can you take four players per console online and set up a private game for just the eight of you?

Hopefully somebody who actually has the console and game can offer a more concrete suggestion.

EDIT - Just found this, bad news:

From PS3 Forums:
In COD4 you can only use 1 player per host using LAN. The only game that I know where you can do splitscreen and LAN (up to 16 players in any combo) is Halo 3. If there are others then please shout .. This is a great feature when you have mates around - just ask them to bring their controllers and 2 can play splitscreen on one xbox, 2 on the other for example. Also had it working with 7 of us over 3 xbox's - one xbox has a 3 way splitscreen, the other two a 2 way splitscreen.
So you'd have to have two separate games running rather than one big one, I guess, perhaps with rules for which players switch after a game.
