Default Kane and Lynch Review

I enjoyed the review Ben, it picked up on most of the same issues I've read about elsewhere without being overly critical. I was just wondering if you got to try out the co-op at all? Most of the reviews that mention it only do so to say it isn't online, which for me is a plus. Presumably the almost total lack of comment around the web means that there aren't any problems with the co-op mode and it plays along just like the single player, and with several co-op achievements on the 360 it seems like it's had proper attention from the developers.

I was basically sold on the game as soon as the "co-op shooter from IO Interactive" concept was revealed, and with it scraping a few sevens around the place it's likely to be a game my brother and I will have some fun with this Christmas.

I briefly played co-op, but only long enough to see that it wasn't broken or significantly different from the single-player campaign.

You'll definitely have fun with the co-op, I'm sure. It works just fine.

Okay, thanks for that Ben. I figured it had to be fairly solid for it to be so ignored by the gaming press at large, aside from the obligatory "ZOMG no online co-op WTF!!??" comment.

This whole brouhaha around Gerstmann's departure is certainly interesting. People boycotting not just Gamespot but anybody who advertises at the site, Destructoid launching a Gamespot-style version of their site at http://cashwh0re.com/, ZiffDavis staff holding a rally outside the Gamespot offices, GS and CNet employees apparently posting anonymously on other sites to reveal the 'truth', and there seems to be a certain theme to the popular tags on the Gamespot forum:

With CNet's official statement failing to deny anything this could genuinely be bad for Gamespot in the long run.

Yeah, nothing good can come out of this for them, especially if it's true (and it's looking like it).

the uk psn got a demo of this on thursday... what can i say,its worth at least 9/10!

9/10 for being dissapointing.
nice looking game, i think it has quite nice crisp graphics, looks good. but in the demo you cant invert your aim.. so i spent a lot of time dying with someone running over and standing over me. after a few goes i realised that if i mashed the joypad i might come back alive. then on the final go i saw that i might be able to swap characters in play. thats when i turned it off.

i can see this game being a vision of its creators and that it 'could' be really cool. i bet it does have an interesting story line, but the demo (starts off at the helicopter) not only didnt grab me from the start, but also made fun of me while i layed on the floor dying many times.

never mind. To be totally honest with you, if had played all the games i want to play for the PS3, i had cash and it was really cheap, i probably would buy this, but with so many good titles on the way, i couldnt justify it right now

It's true. I spoke to several of the GS guys about it.

The 360 demo released on the Marketplace this week and... I very much enjoyed it. Played it co-operatively with my brother and we had lots of fun. The demo even gave each character weapon sets suited to how we play it, with my brother playing Kane, able to hang back with the machine gun and carefully pick off the enemy, while I took Lynch's shotgun and advanced.

The demo does allow you to invert the vertical and horizontal aiming (though my 360 profile takes care of that anyway) which apparently the PS3 demo doesn't, so I didn't end up dying repeatedly while firing at the floor/ceiling like Dillon did. The cover mechanic initially took some getting used to but I was able to figure it out fairly quickly, and while I can see what they were aiming for I don't think it's as intuitive as in Gears of War or Rainbow Six: Vegas.

I didn't get much from the AI team mechanics but playing in co-op I had my brother to work with at all times, making the rest of the team unnecessary (especially when it came to reviving each other). I would go through the demo again solo to see how it works out but I firmly expect my brother (or possibly me) to get the game as a Christmas present next week anyway. Overall though the demo suggests that Kane & Lynch will be exactly what I was expecting it to be, a fun co-op shooter.
