Default Anyone thinking of getting COD4? (say no to 56k)

...im thinking of getting it. theres some top games coming out in the next few weeks... HalfLife2, Assassins Creed, UT3 etc etc...

but from what ive seen moving and static with Call of duty 4 is nothing short of impressive.

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-previews/114.html

(from IGN)

im glad they have stopped (at least for this title) making WWII games, im tired of them, nothing new.. all the same. and as COD has always been one of the better WII games, im glad they have made this...

apparently the online mode is amazing! single player is incredible short, on par with heavenly sword apparently. but they say that online will have things like stats that you can improve with, complete character customisation. sounds really good.

normally i would of not been bothered at all about online, but looking to what time ive put in to RFOM, WH, R6, MS etc... i can see this being a huge thing.

it will be interesting how sites review and mark this game. Cod4 isnt trying to be a great single player game with a good online. from what i have read, its a great online game with a good single play. i believe that should make a difference. But we will have to see i guess. some review sites cant get it out of their head that games should last months and cost as little as possible and be on the shop shelves tomorrow.
(actually, I believe that last point )

so, anyone here thinking of picking it up.. and what for? PS3, 360?

It's certainly nice to see them trying to branch out from the horribly saturated WW2 era and I've heard many good things about the way the multiplayer works, but I have little interest in online gaming so I'll give this a miss. Any multiplayer mode that isn't co-op on one console (or networked across a PC LAN) just doesn't float my boat.

none of the COD's have interested me, besides I'll have Haze and Orange Box to keep my FPS needs happy(as long as Haze makes it out this year)

Im going to hold off getting Halflife2 until Xmas.. I need something that will last over the few days where life stops and shops shut.. lol

but can i wait til Xmas for it? I doubt it, but i'll try!!

Haze.. im not 100% sold on that one. looks great, people are saying good things about it.. but im just not sure. i felt this way about Jericho.. and didnt like the demo that much, but i really really wanted to like it. but i couldnt.

Haze is meant to be out in Nov, and if the demo is any good.. i'll most likely pick it up.

i agree on CoD.. i didnt really like any of them. I had Cod3 for the PS3, and that was a cool game. but got bored really quick, Cod4 does look different though.

I might get NFS that week, take my mind off the awesome HL2.

ps:

Macho.. i agree.. but what i would also like to see (which people are starting to talk about since UT3) is the cross play gaming platform. Theres no reason why PS3, 360 and even PC cant all play together. i would just wish to god people would forget about the console war and give it a try.
imagine if we could.. maybe even you would be interested in online gaming then? lol.. or maybe not.

I'm not sure why it is that I don't find competitive multiplayer all that exciting. Like I've said before I used to play a lot of games with my friends all physically located in the same room so playing with anonymous people I've never met never felt the same. Especially when you can get some real prats online who take it far too seriously, or the hackers, glitchers or team killers who don't care about spoiling it for everybody else (or who specifically do it to annoy everybody else). Perhaps if the average game wasn't filled with idiots or a couple of people using the public voice chat for private conversations about films or other nonsense then I'd be more interested.

But then again, I used to be involved in running a Kingpin clan years back on the old Wireplay service and I found the management and 'PR' (forums) side infinitely more enjoyable than actually playing the game. When I was playing WoW I seldom engaged in PvP combat and much preferred teaming up with people to take on dungeons, and when they went right the raid dungeons, forty people working together to take on AI encounters, were glorious. That's where the online appeal would be for me, working with people to work through difficult, story-based encounters. Competitive encounters with the sole goal of topping the scoreboards just don't do it for me, for some reason.

Cross-format gaming is certainly interesting. The PC is a bit iffy because of the potential for hacks and the like that will always be more prevalent there (though I understand that Unreal Tournament is going to try it at some point with the PS3 and the 360 already has some interaction with the PC through Xbox/Windows Live), but for relatively closed systems like the 360 or PS3 there's no real technical reason that they shouldn't be able to interact, save for there being no way Microsoft would allow people to play games outside of Xbox Live and no way Sony would want their online service integrated into Microsoft's.

While I'm not remotely interested in the past WWII installments of the franchise, I will be picking this one up on release day.

I've youtubed several beta multiplayer videos and they're all pretty awesome.

The experience and leveling structure, as well as the "perks" system all seem like their going to add some much needed depth and strategy into the by-the-books genre.

After playing this on the 360 beta, I will be definatley getting this on release day. Although it was only 3 maps and several guns the experience was amazing. It was like the good old days when Socom 1 first came out.

The online multiplayer will be huge, and there are so many challenges etc to be completed with every weapon etc. This one will last and last. ( For me anyway)

Dillon, I would advise getting it mate, especially as I know you enjoyed Killzone etc online you will love this one. Not sure what it will be like on the PS3 though

cool, i will. i think i have talked myself round to getting this in a couple of weeks. and of course, you have played it, so that makes me want it even more now, it sounds great.

apparently (dont quote me) but the PS3 has the better graphics of the two, if you had to split hairs. According to some online this comes from the Horses mouth. but Infinity Ward also say that even though the graphics may be a lil better on the PS3, there really is nothing between the two versions. they are on par with each other.

i have yet to see any PS3 reviews, but from what I saw of the USA Official Xbox mag, they have given it 10/10 and the UK OXM gave it 9/10. both are the same scores as Halo3, so i guess we'll see if this really lives up to its hype.

so, looks and sounds great... i hope to god it will keep me amused until i get HL2 round Xmas time.

I'd say the 360 version has one, maybe two advantages if you're nit-picking.

One being the stability of Live (I've had nothing but trouble with Warhawk)

And the controller, but that's just me being more familiar playing FPSs' with it.

I'll be getting this for the PS3 though.

i personally think the probs with warhawk online shouldnt affect the online play of cod4. Its like saying warhawk will be faultless online because RFOM is, makes no difference. As for controller, its certainly personal choice. I personally prefer the duel shock, but many have used the xbox controller for years and is their no.1 tool of the trade.
