Well, R6V is a pretty solid game even after the time it's been out.. I still play it and even got my girlfriend playing it and liking it a lot, even if she sucks at games and pretty much only plays Katamari, but it's fun to do co-op terrorist hunt with her

thats interesting, and actually i did hear someone say pretty much that the other day. they talked about there being no cover system, even though its only been in the last year or so where the cover system has really been in full swing in FPS games, i too wonder if its a 'must have' in FPS's.

is it an expected thing now? are health bars dated? is not having a jump button weak and if not, is not being able to fire while jumping wrong?

its certainly personal taste.

from what Ive seen of COD4 i would like to see a cover system, but really its only because i read other people talking about it and i think yeh, that would be cool.. but i wont really know how important it is until i get my grubby mitts on it.

but i have to agree that a cover system for this genre of game i would of thought would be quite interesting, and equally interesting finding out why IW didnt put it in. i can only imagine it was on purpose, looking at the detail in the game, i would be surprised if it was an oversight.

PS: i love R6... one shot to the head.. BAM its all over, rock solid that game. i thought about trading it in, but then came to my senses and traded in GRAW instead.

Certainly I've been waiting for a cover system to be properly brought into shooters for many years now so I was very happy to find Gears of War being built around it and for it to be used effectively in Rainbow Six: Vegas, and I do find health bars somewhat dated after those games and things like Halo showed that it's possible to be challenging without depending on health rationing. They're by no means essential features though.

While CoD 4 does look like it's a tactical squad shooter such as Rainbow Six it's more (as I understand it) like Halo and the previous CoD WW2 games, traditional war-based shooter fare. I certainly never missed the ability to take cover in Halo 3 and presumably I won't miss it here, especially as the game will have been developed without it from the start. I imagine it's mainly when expecting it to be there and discovering it isn't that you get reactions like Gabe's.

Mine was dispatched on Tuesday from Play.com so fingers crossed it might be at home when I get back from work.

Looks like Ratchet and Clank and Assassins creed is going to have to wait now!

So far this game is awesome.

I just made level 5 after playing just over an hour.

I've been able to unlock a nice assortment of weapons and perks, as well as challenges; which is great considering I'm still very new.

Online play is very smooth on my wireless connection. Much better than my experiences with Warhawk.

I've heard complaints in forums about the in-game multiplayer lobby, but I can't seem to find any validity. It's very simple to navigate and there is a Friends List Invite feature.

Hope some people from psxextreme pick this one up. It's very much worth it so far.

I've got the PS3 version.

I take back what I said about the 360 controller. I really prefer the sixaxis hands down with this game.

The multi-player is insanely fun.
Hard at first as when you start your automatically put in the Assualt class so you start with an M146A or M16 or something like that The same one you the SEALs have in Socom I think... anyway because your at level 1 its only capable of burst fire so your in this hectic warzone and all your enemies are on level 10+ and they have all sorts of fully automatic customized weapons. So you got to make your shots count Kill them though and you get to pick up their weapon!
Its alot more tactical/stealth based I found.
You can't just run around shooting as you please ala Resistance as usually a couple of shots and your dead.
I found sniping the easiest at the minute to rack up kills (I do think the fire rate on the snipers is too quick though)
I got my first 5 kills in a row (through sniping) to enable me to do an air strike and that in-turn killed a couple of guys to give me a 7 kill streak so I could call in the helicopter!

This perk system looks like its going to be very cool indeed.
