Gamerhelp have compiled a list of games that never made it to release here. For some reason they chose a list of 28 rather than the much neater 30 or 25. They have some interesting games, both fairly big and obscure, but miss some of the obvious ones, neglecting to mention Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans, the apparently dead Starcraft: Ghost, Van Buren (aka Fallout 3), and things like the Full Throttle and Shenmue sequels, the potential classic that was Penn & Teller's Smoke & Mirrors and others.
They also include two 'consoles', the SNES CD and Phantom. The former obviously became the Playstation so there's not really much to lament there, and the Phantom always seemed to be vapourware pushed by venture capitalists talking big but not really having a clue. They did manage to avoid mentioning the technically still in development Duke Nukem Forever, and they do have some titles that could have been big if they'd been released. The only game I actually played from the list was Thrill Kill which, even allowing for it's unfinished state, just wasn't very good. Still, it's worth a read.

I remember hearing about Thrill Kill and RE 1.5..
But I always thought it was funny.. Duke Nukem Forever. DNF. Did Not Finish. Coincidence? |

i have three copies of Thrill kill.. one full copy, the others are in different states of completion. i dont know why i have them, im just a weirdo i guess. but one day i will find a mod for the PS3 that will allow me to play it.
its not a fantatsic game as Macho said, but it was well before its time, so much so that WuTang Taste the Pain used the exact same game engine years later.. i have that too, just to comeplete the Thrill Kill journey.

Ah yes, Wu Tang. I was trying to remember which game went on to use the Thrill Kill engine. Thrill Kill did have potential, the basic combat engine was workable and took a good stab at a four-player fighting game, with some interesting characters (I remember a psycho surgeon - Dr. Faustus?) but the build I played seemed too focused on being controversial for the sake of being controversial without ensuring the game itself had merit.
EDIT - The odd thing is 3D Realms are still insisting Duke Nukem Forever is in development, with two job postings this year that included tiny screenshots of the current build. There's a wonderful list here of things that have occurred since DNF was announced, including Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XI and its expansions and XII, and every Pixar movie aside from Toy Story being released.
