has anyone heard about this? lol.. its amazing, yet probably not unheard of, in the sense that it peobably happens all the time.
MS sent out to this guy Dean Takahashi $800 worth of Halo 3 gunk in order to 'help' him write the review for it. i gather he isnt the only one to of got this 'gift' either. http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...62&Ite mid=53 anyway, he openly calls it a birbe and is sending all items back to Microsoft. i say he isnt the only guy to of got this as Kotaku are giving their bundle away in a contest (lol)... http://kotaku.com/gaming/contest/the...way-304538.php I know Halo 3 looks brilliant, and the Multiplayer is incredible (apparently).. so why bother trying this stunt? I guess $800 worth of stuff is nothing to MS, probably like a beer mat gift to them. but it just seems to normal people a hell of a gift to just give away. I dont think MS really meant to make this look like a bribe (am i being too soft??) but i do think it does look a bit like one.

Microsoft is all about promotion, if you hadn't noticed. They will jam their product down your throat, and regardless of how it tastes, you'll eventually have to swallow ('cough' Windows 'cough').
But in this case, as you say, it's completely unnecessary. Halo 3 is indeed fantastic, and it's the fastest selling game in history. The little extra bonuses reviewers are getting is a waste of money...even if MS doesn't care about it. They need to learn to let the product speak for itself.

They did go rather all out to try and get everybody in the Halo 3 spirit. "It is the media event of the year, you will love it!". I suppose most reviewers would probably find it pretty neat, either keeping it or giving it all away and generating further publicity, and Microsoft only need to sell about a dozen copies of Halo 3 per swag bag to make the money back.

I can't understand why M$ promoted the hell out of Halo, its the sort of game that sells its self isn't?

Any reviewer with an ounce of decency wouldn't let the goodies influence the score they gave. I'd keep the stuff though
