What I get from some of this thread is that devs that complain about the ps3 with flaming comments are idiots, and those that complain about the wii or 360 with flaming comments are virtuous and courageous for being outspoken?

Hello double-standards!

While their points may all be rooted in validity, I can't help to think that they're partially doing it for the attention it attracks to them.

Ahem. Which is not to say that I disagree with this claim. However I think the same of any of the devs making those sorts of comments.

I know I know. I'm not going to argue semantics.

But my point remains. I hardly see any criticism of developpers when they smack-talk against non-Sony consoles on these boards (sometimes quite the opposite). I find that disapointing, because they're all in the same boat:

1) they are successful developpers, so they have plenty of credibility
2) however they also have nested interest in the platforms that they are not criticising in a rude manner, which makes their claim a bit questionnable while also making them look like attention whores.

. I would like to think that I have evolved as a person not to bash another console without good reason. As you have brought me up on that charge once upon a time (or two)

and I admit that I used to dislike things for no reason only to save Sony’s good name. But I wouldn’t do that now… and if someone had said that the 360 is a waste of space and should be thrown in the bin, I may of not of started this thread, granted.. But I would of posted in defence of the 360 for sure, and the Wii for that matter.

I cant talk for everyone here, but would hope most of us would of done the same.

Well that's the thing. Like I said, most of these flaming criticisms have root in validity most of the time. He says that for him, as a PC dev, developping for the ps3 is not worth investing into because he'll most likely remain a PC centric developper. Which makes sense from a development perspective.

However, nuclear comments that are added to these valid statements like 'it's a waste of time' (which is bullshit, unless The Orange Box ends up selling horribly on the ps3), or 'x game couldn't be retrofitted in the console i have no interest in at all', just add fuel to a fire that really didn't need it, except to get more people to notice it.

I'm more than happy to call a developer a straight up idiot if he makes a comment akin to throwing his/her toys out of the pram. This guy falls under that heading. If he'd claimed " It's a waste of time for us to develop for the PS3 as the hardware is too left field and we think it will have no future application." then that's one thing. I'd be happy to shrug my shoulders and say that's your loss mate but he makes a general sweeping comment.

I don't think the 360 is a waste of space and would comment if a developer made such a claim without being able to justify his or her wording.
