I think that's because we started as a Sony site and have slowly been bleeding in the other consoles. I'm a fan of both the 360 and the PS3 but I also call things as I see them and won't hesitate to call shit on one console or another if it's deserved. Same with Sony and Microsoft or any other company for that matter.

I really do agree.

But the xboxnerds site is lame... In that there is zero content.

And the Psxextreme site posts a lot of the fanboy cliche' "PS3 Will Overcome"

It really is pretty fathomable.

Sony ****ed up bad this round, and everybody is still clinging on to some hope...

A hope that isn't coming.

So they dropped the ball; admit it.

There's always the PS4

(In the hope that they'll learn from their mistakes, really)

Sony fans (myself included) are hanging on to MGS4 (Honestly, played one, played them all) and Final Fantasy (A series that has gone to garbage)

Besides that, they have nothing.

The Wii is selling madly, and the 360 already has an intense install base. The PS3 only sells to the loyal (Which I'm one of) but to no avail.

The other consoles are simply better. (In terms of Software)

I give the 360 props for Bioshock as even the demo had me enthrawled(sp?) but I am loving the software I have for my PS3 too. I had more fun on Res than Halo 1 or 2. If I had the cash I'd buy Halo 3 but I'm holding for GT5.

I think the main problem the PS3 has is with mediocre ports from the 360. As they aren't built from the ground up they aren't optimised for the hardware capabilities. I'd like to have seen games like Blazing Angels built on the PS3..

Between the two consoles I think Microsoft 360 is the worst for two simple reasons. System fail rate and DVD reliance. If the 360 used in buit HD DVD as a standard media base and they had tightened up on the hardware bugs then I wouldn't be able to separate the two machines by much more than the price tag.

As I said before, currently my 360 is great. It hasn't crapped out on me and I'm enjoying the very few games and ton of demos I have.

Did Sony fk up? No. shy do I say that? Because Sony have the expertise and the catalogue to carry this off, and with a machine like the PS3, its all possible and more. As Gabe said.. the games that are coming out right now are ports, some of them are lousy and some are quite decent indeed.. but what you’re missing here Ricky is the fact that these are first year games for the PS3, these are games in the ps3’s birth year.

In 2005 the 360 was shipped out to the customer, and 2 years later the PS3 hit the stores.. that’s two years worth of playing around and developing for the 360 over the PS3, yet the PS3 is showing you what its capable of doing in the first year, which is pretty much keeping up with the 360, and in some cases and other peoples opinions exceeds the 360.. and on top of it all, people like EA’s devs are saying its too hard to develop for.. my god, if you cant develop for the PS3 because its ‘too hard’ yet what your getting out already is bloody good. Imagine what its going to be like when people get to grips with it.

But saying all that, we have Konami and Square, both the big hitters on any console, and they are praising the PS3 for everything and developing games that are truly amazing. I personally wouldn’t miss EA if they disappeared from the PS3, but they wont.. far too much money to be missed, so Sony are going to ‘help’ them in developing.. Which I would say is embarrassing for EA, but they obviously need help, so Sony will lend a hand.

So, if clinging on to hope means MGS4, HAZE, TEKKEN, SC4, FF13, GT5, GTA, HOME, BLP, PSN, etc etc plus free online… then im glad I cut my finger nails, so I can grip better.. (wow that was corny eh??)


I love the Wii, but imo I couldn’t play it in the same way as the PS3. so there is no competition, not because the PS3 is better or worse, but because there IS no competition. Horses for courses as the saying goes. As for the 360.. well, the only console war is between fanboys, so I don’t regard there being a war or a better console. Like the PS2 Vs Xbox.. each console has its strengths. As will the PS3 Vs 360… there will be something the 360 will do that the ps3 wont and visa versa. I could be a fanboy about it, but this isn’t a platform for me to say that sort of stuff.

So that’s my ten pence worth…


Oh, and as for FF going to the dogs.. imo that’s rubbish. FFX and FFXII are incredible games, the psp version of VII looks brilliant, and FFXIII is shaping up to be a killer AAA title… I don’t know if you just said that as your opinion or you read that somewhere the games were garbage, but I can honestly say that most people and I am one of them consider the FF series to be some of the best RPG’s ever made.

Before the semi-fanboy rant Ricky does make one valid comment: lack of content on Nerds. Purely with regards to content the PSX side of things leaves Nerds looking rather lacklustre. PSX has upwards of five news items a day (almost all of which have a picture beside them on the main page), encompassing previews, reviews, news, rumours and Playstation Store updates. Nerds manages one or two a day (pictureless) - and only manages that many because some are multi-format items copied over from the PSX side - and there's no mention of Marketplace content, despite the information being readily available from Major Nelson. PSX has had 14 reviews since September; Nerds doesn't seem to have had any in almost a year.

Even if it's not actually the case, it makes Nerds read a little like a website maintained by people who neither own a 360, nor have much interest in it.

I'd love to have the time and money for games to help with the reviews. I don't think Val and the guys want reviews for 2 year old games and I doubt my writing would be up to the standards of the professionals.

but surely that’s all down to the guys over at Xboxnerds side? we have Ben and AK who do all the editorial stuff for PSXE... don’t Xboxnerds have their own guys to do that? if they’re not doing their job then its there own fault that the site is only being updated with cross platform news? Isn’t it Baseballdude who writes for XBN? Or is it truly all one site?

Lol… and as for semi-fanboy. Yup…. I would agree with that. But then if I had a 360, maybe I would have a different opinion on it all. Which to be fair is a bit short sighted, if someone said that about the 360, with my limited knowledge on the 360, I would still defend its place. Years ago I wouldn’t, but I would now. And im not saying that he ‘doesn’t’ have a PS3, because he hints that he does have one, but I just have a feeling (and im probably wrong) that he doesn’t have a PS3 at all. I realise that might seem like im openly flaming him, im not.. I don’t know him. But on one hand he says that he has a PS3, but its rubbish, and we don’t do enough Xbox stuff here.. yet the Wii and 360 are better consoles, but he IS a sony fanboy.. but again at least theres always the PS4 to make up for things. ???!?!? wtf?


Of course he may of brought a PS3 out of blind faith, which is madness in my book, who has the money to spend on something, just because they brought the other two..? and maybe he is a Sony fanboy.. just that the way he handles himself in this post just seems odd to me. Im sure he’s a good fellow and all that, just something strikes me as odd.


But I do agree that XBN has been neglected but then who’s fault is it?

Just to clarify, Dillon, I wasn't saying your rant was the semi-fanboy one, it was Ricky's that was descending in that direction. Your counter-rant was certainly very impassioned, but still just about kept up a "both consoles have their strengths, but I prefer the PS3" attitude without descending into fanboy territory.

The lack of activity on Nerds just took me by surprise when I decided to visit it to check out some reviews of the games there. Periodically I'll go to a review website to get their opinions on particular games I've enjoyed to see how my opinion matches up to theirs (Eurogamer are currently winning on that count), and not one of them had been reviewed on Nerds. The site almost seems to be running on autopilot, and prompted me to wonder why.

Ben will probably post here and explain why the XBN side of things is a none runner.. to be honest the only reason i ever pop over there is to find out what PS3 port of a 360 game got for a review.. lol, but more than not i dont even find that the game has been reviewed on the XBN.

so i totally agree on why its not being updated. ..as in why?
