I haven't touched my PSP in months, literally. I'm just never excited about the games available for it. Been seriously considering trading it (and accessories & games) for a DS and some games. Also, I think my kiddo would be more likely to enjoy the Nintendo platform than the PSP.
So, this far into it, and with respect to my particular situation as referenced, any suggestions? Oh, one other question: can you game share or play multiplayer (ad-hoc) with GBAs?? My brother got one for his son last month.

Stumbled across this and had to share. You've probably seen it before, since it's pretty old, but I hadn't. Too funny: "Loading Dropkick"

I'm admittedly naive wrt this whole scene. Is this legal?:
http://www.pspgamefiles.com/psxgames...FQOdYAodSQ1lIg And does it require modifications to the system (i.e. is there potential for "bricking")?

I prefer the DS due to the nature of its quality games (arcady and/or easy to pick up and play games), but I do realize it's completely preferential. It's a sweet machine.

I recently bought a DS and have owned a PSP for some time. I dont prefer either per se, but I'll often be in the mood to play one or the other. The quality of games on the DS are more in the spirit of handheld gaming, yet the PSP has a lot of games on offer that rival any console game interms of quality, graphics etc. It all depends on what you want from it, I will say though that the DS has a lot of games which seem easier to play (control wise and in the way they are easy to just pick up and play a few levels) and would probably be better for your kid

Svo.. check out the other post on the psp forum, about the latest games.. ive given some brief views about some of them.. so you might like them?
personally i think theres a lot of great great games out there on the PSP, much more for me than the DS can ever offer me. I was going to consider a DS for Tenchu, but then it seems that its worse then the PSP version, so i went and got Shin instead. at the moment im playing Monster Hunter2 (fantastic so far) The Warriors(again.. bloody good) and Brian Lara's Cricket.. which is rather fun. I guess it does depend on what you like to play and how you want to play it. ps: dont go down the route of Bricking.. apparently it is reversible now, but still, anything that 'could' brick up yoru psp.. isnt meant to be on the psp. but as Goten says.. and i totally agree, that the DS is one superb handheld, and i would recommend it to anyone who doenst like Sony/big console games. imo the DS is best at 'DS' type games.. why bring out Spider-man on the DS and try to make it like the PSP/ Major console versions?!?!!? they should make a unique version! but they dont, and i think that is where they fall flat, same with the Wii. anyway, hope you find what youre looking for.

Don't misunderstand me, Dilly - I WILL NOT do something illegal. That's why I was asking. It's not overly clear from the information on that link whether one has to modify his PSP in order to enjoy the benefits they claim you get. If mods are required, then I'm out immediately. I have no interest in doing that.
I think maybe I'll call Gamestop today and get a quote on my trade-in value. That'll be a big factor. Thanks guys.

Actually, my biggest complaint with the PSP is the crappy follow-through on availability of downloadable PS1 games. That's one of the main reasons I ever got the thing, but I'm unwilling to buy a PS3 so I can do it.
I still can't believe they haven't made those downloads available over the internet on a home computer. Just doesn't make sense to me. Is there any reliable news on the future availability of PC downloads?

Just hack your psp and use your own ps1 games. Nothing illegal there (although your milleage may vary on that one).

I've only got about four PS1 games left, so that's not terribly attractive...
