Default What games from lastgen still holds its own on the next gen consoles?

ive been replaying a load of FPS's.. in order to find the 'real' gems that we may of over looked.

its like, here me playing Resistace, R6, Darkness and GRAW2 (demo) ...and just got me thinking what still plays as tight as any of these games?

imo... (said in a drunken slurred voice, while brandashing a half drunk bottle of Jack Daniels) I dont care what Ryan or the wesht of wous shaay... Killzone plays great.

but seriously, Ive just played the first level of BLACK again.. and wow! its really really good. i mean, it holds its own in many many ways!! far better than i remembered! and i remembered it be very good indeed.

but it did freeze on me (ahhh.. sony and their bloody emulation )

other games ive dug up are HalfLife (...not great, but still playable), Delta Force... erm, sluggish. and BattlefieldMC, which i must admit, i have never ever played a single player version of! always went online, and again.. holds its own rather well.

Rainbow6 3 was my biggest let down, how i loved that game, but compared to the new R6... its like playing it on the Snes...

as for other games, just finished playing Okami for the first time... wow..wow!! i would quite happily play that to death right now.

im still plugging away on FF12 (one of the best RPG's ive ever played).. but with that in mind.. rumours of Dark Cloud 3 are coming. and i adore DC2.

so, any other games anyone can mention thats deserve kudos for being damn good in the face of glitter and polish of a new console?

I think both God of Wars hold up well - being the finest action experiences of the last generation, that's not surprising - and several RPGs are also appearing timeless. FF XII is certainly one of them, but so are FF X, Suikoden III and V, Dragon Quest VIII, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

A few others that will always remain awesome-

DMC and DMC 3
Ninja Gaiden
Twisted Metal: Black
Halo and Halo 2
Deathrow
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Any GTA
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (better than this generation's Double Agent)
Okami
Shadow of the Colossus
Frequency and Amplitude
Rez
MGS 2 and MGS 3
RE 4
Psychonauts

I never had a GC, so I can't comment on those, but I imagine people could make arguments for Metroid Prime, Zelda: WW, SSBM, and Tales of Symphonia.

lol, ive just finished my stint on that... its a wee bit different for us PS3 Euro guys because the firmware didnt show GT4 off as it should, but over the last few updates its really got there again, and shows it off as the beautifiul game that it is. still not perfect, but certainly getting there!!

of course tho, this is all good and well, but its the difference between these versions and the true next gen titles that i cant wait to see.

the differences between GT2 and GT3 was amazing or like GTA2 and GTA3...
from what ive seen it doesnt seem a true gen leap from the last to present... from the likes of GT4 and GT5, even GTA4 doesnt seem that incredible.

is that because last gen was so amzaing that to really have the same leap fom say the PS1 to PS2 this time around just isnt possible, or is possible but only four years down the line?

then i look at MGS4... and then i stop asking stupid questions.

why did Jet set never come out on PSX!!?!!!?? i really really wanted that game, but never owned it

RE4 is amazing eh! blew me away on the PS2, thinking of getting it for the Wii, not too sure how good it will be though?

Ico also plays brilliantly too.

even though Soul Calibur is my fav series ever in the whole fighting genre ever ever.. SC3 plays a lil slow and not as tight as VF5, or even T5: DR. might just be an emulation problem on th E uro PS3, as between T5 and Sc3 on the PS2, i thought SC3 was a much tighter game.

But playing these on the PS3, i hate to say it but T5 wins.

in fact I would say that T5: DR wins over VF5 by a mile. in this case, Graphics doesnt makith the game.. as they say.

but the VF series (typically) has the most solid gameplay in a fighter and is hailed for that principle?

im not an officinardo of fighting games, but i do like to study the fighting games to a very anal point at times, probably because ive done martial arts for the last 28 years.. im on the look out for the best fighting game ever.. i havent found it yet.

BUT... VF5 isnt as tight as T5: DR. ...imo.

VF5 is also quite sloppy in the finishing phase too.. like when a fighter has finished.. instead of stepping out, he/she will slide to a postion after the battle.

i could go on about the frame rate and animations and moves that VF has for probably about three months, and just bang on about how truly truly amazing the game looks. But incredible graphics aside, the fighting system i dont think is as deep as Tekkens.
VF5 is certainly more arcadey... if thats good or bad, i wouldnt like to comment as everyone is different. but for me, VF's fighting system has always left me wanting something else.

like this last installment of VF5, man i loved that game, probably the best looking fighter so far on any platform, and plays amazingly.. but once you have got to that point where you think its tight, and you cant play any better.. i started playing T5 DR, and straight away i noticed the differences. T5 isnt as lush, but what it has is substance.

Tekken for its left/right arm and left/right kicks even though is seemingly a perfect design for a fighting game, it isnt perfect.. but i believe that Namco will crack this before Sega does. and where Sega will stay true with an arcade game, i feel that Namco could quite easily go down the fighter simulator route.. personally i hope they do!

i think that AK was 100% spot on for the review on VF5, but i now think that long term, T5: DR deserves a higher score in terms of control and when it comes out online, certainly gameplay.

i have a huge hopes for T6, and may blow VF5 out of the water, but then so could Sc4.. but Sc4 is taking a big risk this time around, and i hope they get it right. Bushido blade was one of my favourite games on the PS1, but im not sure going from one type of fighting game to another is a good thing. i guess we'll see.

but yeh, horses for courses as they say here in Blighty at the end of the day youre a VF fighter or a Tekken warrior, its impossible i think to love both games equally for the same reasons.

imo Tekken is sharper, tighter and more rewarding.. and thats offline, i cant wait to see what this online is like!
