Sony looking to buy Rockstar?!?!?!?!
Erm…. Could be a unreal wtf moment, but it could be all hot air and lies. But take a look at this… from PSU.com http://www.psu.com/Sony-To-Buy-Rockstar-News--a928-p0.php “Sometimes the most unexpected news will hit you in the oddest places. That was the case tonight as we sat merrily eating dinner with developers and journalists from around the industry at the Tengu Restaurant in Westwood, California. We were coming from a joint Sony, Activision event there in Southern California, when we were told something we definitely weren't ready for. The discussion at Tengu was fairly simple in its scope: various sources in the press and development team state that Sony is looking to take Rockstar “under their wings”. While we learned that any agreement Sony and Take Two entered into would not affect the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, such an agreement would presumably affect any future releases from Rockstar, including the new franchise Sony has been discussing and L.A. Noire, which looks likely to be a PSXexclusive at this point as well. Rockstar, which is currently a part of Take Two Interactive, has produced several blockbuster franchises, including the Grand Theft Auto series of games, Manhunt and Bully. The studio has become famous for both the games it produces and the controversy surrounding their production. Rockstar has earned itself a reputation however as a developer which is focused on making excellent games, something that many of the studios that make up Sony World Wide Studios are known for. As with any news this interesting, we must affirm that we trust our sources, but that our sources do not constitute an official confirmation. PSU will report back to all of you when we have more. Corrections: In our haste to post such startling news, we had two errors in this article which were corrected post-mortem. 1. A question mark which had been intended for the title was omitted in the original article. 2. The original article claimed that we visited the Tengu Restaurant in Hollywood. The article should read Westwood where the Restaurant is located. Hollywood was the location we were coming from where Sony had been hosting a small event. Thank you for your understanding. ~The Editors” So…. Could this really happen? Could Sony buy R*… lol if they do. But is it fair that if they do, then no more for Xbox? This could all be a lie, and none of this could happen.. but just think if it was true, just think of what R* could do if they spent all their time on developing for the PS3, certainly a ‘wow’ moment if true. R* even though weren’t owned by Sony back in the old days only ever made GTA for the PS, so going back to their roots wouldn’t be a bad thing in my book, but I would feel sorry for those who don’t have a PS3 and would be forced to buy one if they wanted to still play GTA. Well, what ever the truth is, im sure Sony will comment.. and again, no matter what the truth REALLY is.. Sony will deny all knowledge of this whole thing ![]()

If they devote 100% to making PS3 games I will be a very giddy gerbil.
Not having split focus is good for any console.

well they have that L.A Noir.. but also that 'other' secret PS3 exclusive game in dev. so maybe R* really are thinking about it? maybe certain talks have been going on for months..
hence maybe why Sony never really fought the whole GTA4 exclusive content that hard... who knows??!!

I don't own a ps3

that's the stupidest rumor this side of MGS4 for the 360. and even then, there's more basis to that than this one.

There's no way in hell this happens. To buy Rockstar, Sony would have to buy Take Two or buy out Take Two's (almost) sole reason for commercial success; neither option is one Sony can afford at the moment, and neither option is one that either Rockstar or Take Two would want. It's cost prohibitive for all parties involved.

thats a good point... then maybe the whole "under its wing" statement meant exactly that.
to buy but to manage for a period? as i said in the first post, its all probably not true, just some rumour or lie thats got out of hand, but we all know theres no smoke without fire, so whether its true or not, at some point talks might of gone on.

No, as Ryan said, buying is out of the question. The only possibility is an exclusive deal for Rockstar to develop games only for the PS3. But even that seems bizarre...even with PS3 sales picking up, I doubt many publishers would be interested in completely ignoring the 11 million Xbox 360 owners out there.
On the other hand, if Sony hits its goal of having shipped that many PS3s by March of 2008, perhaps it's not so far-fetched. As Sony execs have said, exclusives will only come with time, and it's for the simple reason that there needs to be a larger installed userbase before major publishers would consider making exclusive deals.
