I assure you I'm far from a PS3 fanboy but I assume you weren't referring to me ?

If by necessary we mean like oxygen is necessary to breathe, then no it BR isn't necessary.

If by necessary we mean if we want to avoid:

Using loads of HD space for storing permanent data.
Swapping discs part way through a game.
Having condensed data which stops it being HD.

Then yes, in that respect it is necessary as games will not be able to be bigger than 9gb and I don't think game makers should be tied to such a restriction just to maintain the DVD format.

Using RFoM yet again as an example; If it was available in the 360 the 20gb game would have to be condensed to fit onto a 9gb DVD which would mean losing some of the cut scenes or they would be no longer be in HD. Or they'd have to spread it over 2 discs and you already know my view on that.

dl speeds and ext HD costs in Europe prohibit game downloads in the near to mid future.

If you think Blu-Ray is the future as far as media goes, yes it's only the near future. Disc Media has been changing very fast, within then next 3-5 years you'll see a new disc media. Look how people don't buy CD's now, it's all MP3 downloading. Also slowly we are already downloading emulations and having older games for download.

As Val stated, "Its all going downloadable, just a matter of time."

I think you'll find people do still buy CD's, by the shit load. Ninja Theory and Gurilla have both said they have come close to needing duel-layer Blu-Ray discs, killzone 2 may still use 2 layers yet who knows. Its reckond the BD's will be 4 layers in the future so I think it will be around for a long time and is the right format to go with. judging by the insane amounts data starting to flying around it is going to be necessary.

well a while back you dissmissed my theory and I believe you called me a moron, now it coming back to bite you in the ass cos as time goes on Im being proved right and tis you that looks the "moron", so of course Im going to bring up new findings to rub in your anti-PS3/Blu-ray face, its hilarious, and it does put a new perspective on things, devs not far off needing duel layer BD does make it look like BD will be a necessary storage medium, you call it a non-issue? so cos you don't care about this topic(tho you care enough to keep replying) I shouldn't? stop reading the thread if you think is a "non-issue"

I may have called you a moron, I'm not sure.

But now I don't think it was even necessary if I did. You have always made a pretty strong case to prove your moronocity, and you put the final nails in my coffin with this last post. I won't argue with you further more on the subject. Time sure proved you right.

So your calling me a moron again, nice, did you think the silly little englishman wouldn't pickup on that cos you did it in a clever way? I haven't tried to prove Im a moron all Ive tried to do is have an opinion and then you tell me its wrong(maybe not in so many words but we both no its there), theres no such thing as a wrong opinion, you and your arrogance are the reason why I don't come on here as offen as I used to, replying in threads with topics you supposedly don't care about.
