I don't own a ps3

I fail to see how single disks are a necessity. They're definitely more convenient, but necessary?

I wouldn't worry about HDs becoming the main medium. Downloading games into a hard drive won't be happening for a long time. 1TB is not enough for that sort of feature. In two years, the average game size will be roughly 30GB, factor in that and the amount of other content that will be stored on HDs, and you don't have much room left. And on top of that, internet speeds won't even allow us to download 30GB in a timely manner for quite a while. It's simply not something that's feasible for another 10 years for the mainstream.

Internet Speed will allow us to download 30gb mainstream within 1-2 hours in a matter of a few years. At todays rate of expansion in the networking and ISP industries, it will be feasible in the main stream market within 5 years time. (Hell it's already feasible in the mean stream market, just that not many people have those type of speeds). I download at about 1mb+ per second from a dedicated large server, therefore 1gb would be downloaded within 17min, therefore 30gb within about 5 hours. I highly doubt it'll take 10 years to reduce these download times by half, because today we already have mainstream Fiber Optics, which basically doubles my speed. (This is all on a 12mbps connection).

I believe that the industry is going to remain split on media consumption between physical disks and downloads. We already have a ton of simple games that are going to be very downloadable. I'm talking about sub-$20 games that are super simple (Sudoku, Monopoly, etc) yet fun to play. Its all going downloadable, just a matter of time.

fios from veriszon downloads 20megs a second. So downloading games is possable. oblivian is 4.6 gb 120 hour game. A standard dvd can hold 8-9gb so I dont see any need for more space at this time. By the time that happens the next gen xbox will be out. I have'nt read any articals from game devs that the space on a regular dvd will be a problem. Only from ps3 fanboys.

![]() Actually, given how quick this cat jumped into the name calling, Bizzarro @PS3 might be more appropriate.... ![]() |
