And creating a code where it makes the game run better on an Premium 360 then pisses off the Core pack owners. It's lose-lose.
They can certainly do it, but they have to sabotage it to work on the Core as well. See Oblivion, and such games.

But as I said earlier, I do think that the exclusion of a standard hard-drive was the biggest mistake in the 360's features.

I think people with the HDD 360 would still be miffed, I mean Virtua Fighter 5 on PS3 uses about 2.5Gb of the HDD for cache aswell as the save game data, now if games on 360 have to do that more and more 20Gb ain't gonna last too long.

To me thats a system killer, will devs even want to bother, this worries me cos if the 360 wasn't around there would be nobody to push sony and they'd treat us like crap and we in the EU get it bad enough as it is. I little extreme I know but 2 or 3 years down the line who knows

Uhm, 20 gigs is fine for caching. Even if they compress on DVD, cache on HD, there's still going to be some swapping between both, and there's still a limit of how much compressed content that you can put on a DVD and have it not too CPU intensive, so that it's not too intrusive.

So you make games for the 360? As a consumer, it shouldn't be a system killer.

I know they can do it, but they choose not too. =)

I'd be stuffed. I only have about 1 gig left on my HD and I don't want to be in the position of having to delete a much loved demo just to make room for the cache of my next new game. I want the minimum of stuff like that on my HD to leave me room for music and demos.

There's a reason why you can't put more than 10 o 12 gigs of stuff on the hard drive. The rest is used for caching, and you cannot use it to download demos and such.

I don't think any savegame is remotely that size (and to be honest, none should), and if you're referring to caching, well that's just not how it works.

I've seen the slot on DK's machine. there is 2.5gigs of VF Data permanently stored on his machine which isn't in the game save folder. I think it's a bit like installing a game on a PC whereby it saves a chunk of data to be accessed when you play the game. In VF5 this could be the backgrounds or something I suppose.

If other games developers design their releases to do the same HD space could be an issue.

Yeah, but that's not what caching is. :P
