![]() well, lets face it, DMC has lost its edge somewhat... its their own fault. personally, I blame DMC2.

What? DMC2 wasn't great, no. But 3 was insanely good. The series most certainly hasn't lost its edge.

IMO, Devil May Cry 3 is on par with the first, and in a lot of respects surpasses it. I absolutely loved it, and I even enjoyed the 2nd to an extent, so 4 coming out on 360 is great! Means I dont have to get a PS3 as soon as I thought

Not sure why people didn't expect this... Perhaps they didn't notice, but Capcom has already made two of the most successful exclusive 360 titles in Dead Rising and Lost Planet. They're clearly not adverse to working on the platform, and by releasing a game on other platforms, it ensures more sales. It's really not surprising.
I'm pretty sure that by the end of this generation, the third-party exclusive will be a thing of the past. Only first and second-party games and series can remain exclusive at this point; third-parties are perfectly willing to make their games multiplatform now. So there are two keys: 1. which console will have the best versions of multiplat titles? I had the Xbox primarily because it almost always had the best versions of multiplat games, for example. 2. which console will have the best first/second-party exclusives? Nintendo has the big three in Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, Microsoft has Halo, PGR, and probably Mass Effect (it's supposed to be a trilogy), and Sony has Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy (the TRUE installments, like FF XIII are exclusive to the PS3), Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Resistance, etc.

The userbase thing definitely has an impact with this right now. Games are more expensive to make, and consoles are more expensive to purchase, which leads into slower sales growth.
It makes no sense whatsoever to release a game that costs dozens of millions to a userbase of less than 2 million, and for small added cost, they can quadruple the userbase. I too predict the downfall of third party exclusives, although I don't think it'll be as dramatic as you predict, Ben, if there is a strong winner at the end of this generation (although that remains to be seen as well).

But as I said, no user base is big enough to cope with the development cost just yet (unless the console manufacturer invests in the game, that is). We'll see in a couple of years how it pans out.
