Well I just read this (http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/939.html) article on the site, and personally don't agree with the list entirely. Surely the Final Fantasy series should be included? I know it isn't everyones cup of tea, but these games (especially games such as VI, VII and X) have paved the way to introduce many, many gamers to RPGS, as well as influencing a hell of a lot of developers. But maybe thats just me thinking this.
Anyway in response to the article, I thought I'd come up with a list myself, and see what everyone else's ten most important games are (with reasons if you wish). I'm gunna post the ten most important games from a personal stand point, rather than get into a debate about which games are literally the most important. 1. Final Fantasy VII- the game that REALLY got me into gaming, and a title that still has a massive spot in my heart. 2. Metal Gear Solid- I may think the 3rd installment is a better game, but the first one got me into the serious and helped me appreciate games that really made you think when trying to find a solution to a mission/task. 3. Sonic 2- probably the first game I can remember playing. 4. Toejam and Earl- the first game that I can remember playing co-op multiplayer. 5. Tekken 3- played this game for hours on end when I was about 9 or 10. 6. Sonic 3 & Knuckles- my favourite platformer game, they just don't make them like they used to *sniff*. 7. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2- my favourite 2D fighter franchise (Street Fighter), combined with pretty much all of my favourite heroes/villians. 8. Football Manager 2005/2006/2007- helped develop my knowledge of the beautiful game as well as appreciate it more. 9. Devil May Cry 1/3- best game to play if you want some mindless fun/violence. 10. Sonic Adventure- it might seem like I'm a Sonic fan boy, and I must admit I am pretty partial to a good Sonic session if I'm in the mood, but I used to play this for hours with my best mate and brother. Note: these aren't exactly my ten favourite games (or games that I think are structurally the best), just ten games that have changed or influenced the way I percieve games to this day

As much as i don't like RPGs FF VII must be reconised, i don't think Super Mario has any buissnes being on the list there were plenty of other platformers before it that were better.

Firstly Goten you have a shit load of new age games. If you consider Tekken 3 important because you played this game for hours doesn't mean shit. Many games get 10's it doesn't deserve the list. The article refers to games that paved the road, no way in hell did Tekken 3 do that. More like Virtua Fighter did that.
“Creating this list is an assertion that digital games have a cultural significance and a historical significance,” Tekken 3, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Devil May Cry 1/3, and half the other games you mentioned in know way have as great of as big of a significant culture as any game Arnold mentioned including Tetris. Tetris is more important than any game you mentioned. There have been whole show on History and Discovery or one of them i forget made for Tetris describing it's popularity and historical/cultural background. I'm not trying to be flaming Goten but even in your opinion you did not give good reasons for your most important games. Secondly Darth Koth, there were no other platforms before Super Mario Bros 3 that were better if you can name me one then i will agree with your comment. Super Mario Bros 3 was the best platform of its time and of anything before it, hell it's one of the greatest platforms out today still. And Thirdly Arnold, the article was excellent and on point, I don't think you made the list but for the most part i agree with the list. The only game i felt was missing is Sonic The Hedgehog (Sonic 1) instead of Sensible World of Soccer for example. But other then that great article.

I have nothing to do with this list. Wtf...
In any case, you're posting a list of your favorite games, Goten. This is a list of the 10 most important games, and that list was made for a valid reason. None of those games you mentioned were very important to the industry. None of them shaped gaming today. They may have been great games, but the industry didn't change because of them. |

The 1983 Mani Miner was just as plain and bland like any other platform game to come after it until SMB1. Still SMB1 wasn't as revolutionary and with the introduction of SMB2 the series was looking towards a downfall. Once SMB3 was introduced, i was simply amazed. It had so many thing and played so much differently then any platform at its time, and that includes Manic Miner or the Dizzy Series. SMB3 has done more the industries platform gaming then any of those 2 games you've mentioned. Now how about a giving me a game that has contributed close to as much as Mario has to the platform industry.

I see what your saying and i don't just dissmiss your opinion but I think without games like MM Mario might not have been what it is/was
I think MM was better cos you had to get round enemys get the keys and get out in lots of different ways for me Mario was: run, jump gap, jump on enemy, jump gap, jump gap "I pressed jump dammit, why didn't he jump" lol
