I'm gunna post the ten most important games from a personal stand point, rather than get into a debate about which games are literally the most important.

Can no one read? The point of this thread had nothing to do with what was literally the ten most important games created, I was trying to find out which was everyones most important games to them, games which got you all personally to play games more often and ones which shaped the way you looked at games. I might not have been very clear but I was pretty sure you'd all pick up on that. But to say some of my games haven't shaped the industry today is simply not true anyway. DMC opened the way for 3rd person actions games, Football manager has made every single football game make a more indepth managing system. FFVII and MGS have had quite an impact on games as well, and surely Tekken (I realise not necersarily Tekken 3) has had a huge impact on how 3D fighters have been created. I'm not arguing the actual list, except maybe the Final Fantasy series should be in there, and I sure as hell don;t think games like MvsC2 were more influential than say SMB3, but I want/wanted to see everyone's personal top ten in terms of how they affected people's gaming habits.

Hell I even said at the bottom of the list that these weren't actually my top ten favourite games.

Devil May Cry was Resident Evil (bio Hazard) with a twist, there for resi paved the way for that one, in fact DMC was going to be resi 4 and evolved into DMC.

Now i'm not bashing you for your opinion, hell many people may have changed that list, but you went way out without ever playing any old games and putting in half the games you did were for PS2 or greater. Now i'll break down all of the games you mentioned or atleast most of them.

1. Final Fantasy VII - Defenitly and excellent game, and in my Top 10 Favorite games of all time, but not in my Top 10 Most Important games. FFVII did in no way revolutionize a new way of RPG. It simply was an excellent game with a great story, gameplay, and excellent character development. BTW just to show you i'm not being bias, FFVII is the first RPG game i ever played and is the game that got me into RPG games and i still don't put it in my most important list.

2. Metal Gear Solid - Excellent games and definitely made a great contribution to the gaming industry, much more then FFVII did, at least imo. Maybe this game has a right to be on the list and i'll give you it, thought not on my list of most important games, this one is definitely one of the more important ones on your list.

3. Sonic 2 - In no way had any effect to the industry. Again like i said Sonic The Hedgehog (Sonic 1) had more to give then Sonic 2. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 were Sonic 1 with upgrades. For example Super Mario World (SNES) was just an upgrade of SMB3, containing new levels, story, itmes, and such. Gameplay was somewhat the same. If you put Sonic 1 on your list i wouldn't complain. And yes Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 are better then Sonic 1, but again not as culturally important.

4. Toejam and Earl - This game was meh. It can only be a favorite never come close to being important. It was as simple and bland as any other Action/Adventure game at its time. It was just a fun past time game i can't see why it would be that important. Please The Legend of Zelda (NES) had more to offer to the plate at its time for an Adventure/Action.

5. Tekken 3 - Again you said Tekken 3 and not Tekken 1. Maybe if you mentioned Tekken 1 it would have held some merit but then again what revolutionized 3-D Fighting was Virtua Fighter. But Tekken 1 may have some points that may make it hold. Tekken 3 was just a good game with the time it came out technology excellent giving it more power, but meh still in the end just a game i wouldn't really look back at.

6. Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Read my comment on Sonic 1. And Yes Sonic 3 is by far the best Sonic game.

7. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 - Two Word...STREET FIGHTER. 'Nough said!

8. Football Manager 2005/2006/2007 - Never played it, can't talk about it. It's good to be on your list with what you mentioned.

10. Sonic Adventure - I don't know how much a revolution it was seeing, as Mario 64 was transformed from a 2-D to 3-D platform first. It's funny how you can mention 3 great Sonic games and in them believe they are that important.

On your list i will only credit you for Football Manager, seeing as how i never played it, Metal Gear Solid, and FFVII.

What's funny to me is how you mentioned so many Sega and Sony games and practically no Nintendo games, as if Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and many others did not have as much or more effect on the industry.

Though these may be the most important for you, and most likely you based this on playing them first, it's a wrong way to classify the importance of a game. When reading the article, they don't classify the games as which they played first. Again i played Zelda a Link to the Past (Zelda 3) first and feel it's the best Zelda, but Zelda 1 is much more important imo. Same thing with FFVII though one of my favorites and the first i played, i still feel like it's not the most important, though it may be recognized due to it's fan base build up and such great popularity leading to the greater expansion of FF games.

It did bring RPGs to the masses tho, thats why I think its important, or maybe it was due to it being on Playstation that did that? Its just that I can't remember such a fuss over an RPG before it, maybe you can jogg my memory.

I think you're missing my point Dmitry, I understand (reading my original post again) that it was pretty easy, but in my defence I posted it when I was tired and it was late at night.

In terms of the original list I don't contest any of the entires, but I do think that maybe they could have slotted in FFVII or the FF series as a whole. Surely, even if you think VII as a single game didn't do much to revolutionize the genre, the series has done so?

What I meant with this thread is the ten most important games that have had an affect on you personally. I'm not on about the industry, forget that it's even mentioned. I would have liked to have seen lists of people's most important games TO THEM. Again I understand what you mean and why I was misunderstood, but thats not what I'm trying to say.

With the Sega/Sony thing, it's not "funny" as such because a) I didn't own a Nintendo console till the Game Cube, so if I had put across my idea better about the influence from a personal level not industry level, Nintendo games haven't had an affect on me at all. Whilst I think as a company they are probably one of the most influential (if not THE most influential) company on gaming as a whole, I never really got into a lot of their games that people love. I appreciate that people love Mario games but was never really fond of them Each to their own I guess.

I can see what you're saying about the games I placed in my list and agree with what has been said (mostly) in terms of their influence, they hold a place in the list for me because of different reasons. For example, Tekken 3 set a benchmark for how I percieve fighting games, and due to the amount of time I spent on it I still compare a lot of fighting games to it. That's why it is important to me. I didn't want to get very detailled with every game because I would have had a huge post originally, but I can see that was the wrong idea now

Basically, I worded my original post poorly, but you all completely misunderstood what I meant (but didn't make very clear) anyway. Let me reiterate and get this clear now. I don't disagree with the original list (but feel FFVII/FF series could have been represented some where), my original intent for this thread was to put a list of ten games that have shaped the way they play to this day, and this doesn't even necersarily mean your ten favourite games. I can understand why it may look like a favourite list, but that's not what it is.

So yeah.... if this topic has any life left in it, go ahead and post the ten games that have influenced you all the most!
