Future joy.....

So.. im just thinking about the Wii and PS3, and the joy pads… I mean, how far are we going with this?

We started off with sticks, then stick with a button, then a couple of buttons. For me the greatest leap in Joy pad technology was the NegCon, because for me it was so unique. For those who have never seen one.. it was basically a pad in a familiar design, but it twisted in the centre. Great for games like Wipeout.. Just fantastic, but useless for anything else you wanted to play. This is why I think the Sixaxis will work amazingly well with the new Wipeout, being able to turn or at least put more ‘feeling’ in to play.
The WiiMote does this very very well too… of course its horses for courses with the nunchucks imo, but amazing technology that I can see just going further and further.

But in 20 years time what will we be using? Our minds? Lol…. We joked in the other forum (off topic) about a Wii-glove, for holding the Wiimote so you didn’t lose it, and then it went on to a Wii-glove that was part of the Wiimote itself. Of course we have had virtual gloves in the past, but with this technology that the Wii and even the Sixaxis use, the probability of a ‘GOOD’ virtual glove is I think a distinct possibility.

Imagine virtual Pants, T-shirt and trainers? ..Imagine playing Tekken fully clothed? The Eye–toy is incredible, there is no doubt, but you could use this with Bluetooth and design a fighting game with pin point accuracy and collision detection.

I don’t know what you guys think, but with these next Gen machines I think the future in gaming starts here.. no longer do we have to say “imagine what the graphics will be like on the new Tekken or GT” now we can think about the other dimension in gaming… the ‘feel’ factor.

What other type of control could we use in the future? Nothing is a stupid idea.. That’s the greatest thing about this, what was once thought as stupid is now a huge possibility.

yes thats what im saying about the Wii, theres rumour flying around that GTA4 will be on the wii. i cant think of anything worse!!

What about a coconut shy on screen and your controler is a very soft ball that you throw at the telly and it would know when you hit the coconuts, that would be cool, or you could have maggie thatchers head to throw at

I love the Wii; of three next gen consoles, it's definitely the one I've had the most fun with. But, at the same time, I think it's good that there are some more "traditionally" controlled system out there to balance things out a bit. For the vast majority of games I think that's still the best way to play.

I know what you mean AK, about Wii not being Next Gen.. but in the way that Next Gen is something that hasn’t been done before, I think it is.

Though by me saying that, I’ve made it redundant as all that the Wii is, is a Nintendo Eye-toy, but a rather special one at that.

I think there is enough of a market for the Wiimote and the Eyetoy with the Sixaxis too. These can only develop in to something quite magical in the next few years.

I don’t know if you were joking DK about the coconuts, but why couldn’t you put a lightweight sensor in to a foam ball?

Remember that lame laser quest game you could buy and play at home? was never as good as going to those places and strapping on that equipment and running around in the dark, almost playing the part of some Sci-Fi war film.. you felt like the bloody Terminator at times, well.. Imagine a FPS game that made you feel like that?

no reason why that wouldn’t happen..

lol... I hope that the Wii really manipulates the Wiimote and uses it to its full potential! I’ve seen the movies for the Eyetoy and the PS3.. I’ve seen what it can do, I’ve also seen the promo Eyetoy vid for PSW mag.. and its like something out of minority report, we joked that it would be like that when it first came out, and now it looks like its a huge possibility.

But what of the Wii.. Does anyone know? How could the wiimote be used and in what? Could the Wiimote be used in a Final Fantasy game? If so.. Could it last 100 hours? As Gabe pointed out, GTA would be a nightmare! Lol but they are bringing Manhunt to the Wii.. and so that will be really interesting!

I have no idea how they will do it. But if they can do that, then maybe they can do GTA?

no i dont like the desing of the wii mote....no they should have made some thing else really the remote makes me hate the wii...in fact its very ugly the wii mote i love the console but not the joypad

@PS3, you MUST get over this.... it will drive you mad if you dont. Nintendo are not going to discontinue the Wiimote because you dont like it!

the Wimote and chuck is a great pad...just that it suits some games better than others. I see that Spider-man3 is coming out for the Wii.. imagine 'actually' swinging with the wiimote and nunchuck? or flicking your arm out to spin a web?

...i dont know about others, but i would love to play this game that way.

@PS3.. the future you may not agree with, but its here to stay, so try and live with it if you cant love it.. because it WILL shape your gaming life, whether you like it or not.
