I’m talking Okami, Vib, Parappa, Rez... you know the sort.

Games that make you think this is just bizarre?


The reason why I’m asking is because I’m just looking at my Japanese game collection, wishing that the shops here in the UK would take them as part exchange (lol)... and something dawned on me, that the truly weird games don’t get released over here or in the States, but why?


I remember playing Mojib Ribbon, and just not being able to understand why we don’t have this simple but brilliant game? or Space Fisherman? ...who cares if its different? they didn’t sell in their millions in Japan, so why not take the risk and sell abroad.

So with the Playstation store, the PS1 games available for your psp.. I bet they’re not many weird games to download? Wouldn’t it be better for Sony to release games that not everyone picked up the first time around, because at the time they were full priced non-budget games for the PS1?
Now i reckon you would take the risk and buy something that wasn’t your cup of tea, and if it was only $5.. Why not?

Also, with fLoW being there to download for the PS3, it will be interesting how popular that is, because that might be a bench mark that Sony decide on how and what to flood the market with in the future.


Apparently the British are more like the Japanese when it comes to tastes in games, and not like you guys from the States

but I don’t know if i believe that. I think we all like these games, but Sony need to see that.

I basically don’t want a repeat of the PS1 and PS2 JP games in the past, where we don’t get them. IF this multi regional stuff is even remotely true, then for the first time ever we should be getting more weird games on the PS3 than ever before.. I hope so.

I love weird. That's why I'll always own the most popular platform at some point in time, because that's typically where the weird thrives (that and on Sega consoles, but these don't exist anymore, do they? ).

well, I dont know.. i think that the Wii certainly will have weird titles, but would you want to be waving your hands about forever?

out of the PS3 and Xbox, i would say by default that the PS will have more weird titles, especially with B/C.

i can only hope games like FLOW will be the ones that kep on coming. seems the Japanese own weird, and im happy to keep on buying Japanese weird games, even if i cant understand them! lol

but yeh, with these PS1 games for download.. its a perfect opportunity for Sony to get the weirder games to us, and maybe open the doors for PS3 titles in the future that wouldnt normally have a chance in the west?

So weird…. How weird does a game have to get before it gets pretentious? You know.. weird just for the sake of it!

Or is it that we just don’t understand the game thus its crap?

What about games that are weird because they are not the norm? What about the side of games that make you feel sick, joy or make you question the game itself….

They are the weird different games that I now seek. The perfect game here that springs to mind is Shadow of the Colossus…

I mean, I’m only on the 14th now, but am I doing the right thing in killing these magnificent creatures to save the life on (I assume) the person I love? Is it morally correct to do this, a voice in the heavens tells me to do it, says he will bring that girl to life.. so I kill and kill… is it right?

Apart from SOTC, I cant remember a game that has left me feel uneasy about something like this.

What other games have made you question the ethics like that? Was SOTC a one off? I don’t think so.. Ico was the same for me, but in a different way, so me that was just pure joy, and at the end.. the very end. Yes I had a bit of a lump in my throat.. After all, it was rather emotional.

That’s the sort of games I like.. I say weird, because they are unusual, unusual because its just not as mindless as 99% of the games tat come out. I have no emotion for.

There are certain games I adore.. KZ, MOH,GT.. even GTA.. They are just fun games that I love, but in a very very different way.

I believe that this is all VERY individual… and I’m just interested in what games everyone considers to be weird… good weird or bad weird?

I quite like some of the wierder games but they have to be cheap. I am not going to pay standard retail for a game which will keep me entertained for very short time periods.

mind you.. you can get some VERY cheap weird games!!

have you ever played Killer7? lol.. that is one game i tried and failed to get to grips with, but my heart goes out to it, and i have the up most respect for that game.

it cracked me, it made me think "this is way too weird for me".. and i never completed it i feel guilty, as i wished i still had it, but i dont.


but in this time of the PS2's life, nows the right time to buy these games.. the only game i woud say that would see you lose £30 over is Okami, and from the review here on PSXE.. its worth every penny.

I've played Okami and it's one hell of a game from what I have played, but very hard to get into. It's extremely story heavy and you definately have to be in the right mood to play it imo.
