Codename Zephyr: New 360 to come out in May?

I've been hearing some rumors about a new X-box 360 coming out in late spring/early summer, so I googled it and sure enough:

The rumors might be just be some journalist's fantasy, but supposedly retailers have been confirming that they have an SKU (Stock Keeping Unit, or placeholder) for a unit worth $479.99.

The rumors describe the new 360, codenamed Zephyr, to have a black exterior, HDMI capability, and a 120 gig harddrive.

This would be awesome for me, because my 360 is working terribly as of late.

doesnt surprise me, to be honest I dont think anyone will care on the PS3 Vs Xbox front anymore.... especially if they are pushing graphics the way theyre doing.. who needs more on that front eh?

it will be even better if the new 360 is even more powerful than the old.. make things more even and probably more interesting.

Truth is, if the PS3 performs as well as its suposed to it will make the 360 look silly in a couple of years, so I think M$ will have to bring us a console with more power alot sooner than sony will have to make a new machine

totally, thats why I feel the Wii is totally free from all ths upmanship. its so different in the way that these other two cosoles are like, that it will just live a happy long life i hope.

i would even put money on that.

maybe in three years time, things will be different. but for now, i dont think you will have to worry.

and even in three years time, as we were discussing in the other thread, that GRUNT isnt always what you need for a better console.

It's not a console with more power. The rumored update just has HDMI ports and a bigger hard drive, neither of which have anything to do with computational power. It's just adding hardware features that the original were missing.

MS (their proper acronym) aren't that stupid as to aleniate the early adopters and release a console with different computational specs.

agree, it will be at least three to four years before the 'new' Xbox is out.

but then if this piece about 'how even in its last years of the ps3 life, developers still wouldnt of used the ps3 to its full potential' is true... a new Xbox shouldnt be any threat.

mainly (imo) because games will be at that point where each console has its strengths. And if MS (

) did bring out a much higher spec of a console, it will only benifet those who have an Xbox and those who want the Xbox, and want to play Xbox online.

after all i have read and seen 2nd hand, i feel there is no threat what so ever from the 360 to the PS3, in fact i dont see how there will ever be. as all the games i know i want to play will never come out on the Xbox.

of course, if GT and Ico etc etc were to cross over, then I would seriously think about changing consoles if the PS3 went 'bad'..

but i would like to see a higher spec 360 come out, then maybe all the shop fanboys will stop their moaning and biatching on the PS3!

no, it's just nothing new in this business, and probably won't have huge effects (as all the others minor updates) in the console wars.
