Wii don't like Christmas.

Excerpt from our Metro newspaper:

'... Users have found it confused by sparkly bits of tinsel and flashing lights. One gamer wrote online: " My Wii has been acting wierd and I could not figure out what was wrong. I turned off the Christmas tree lights and it worked."
The remote detects infrared lights and, if there is an extra light source near, it can threow out the alignment.'

So there you are. If your mate is about to beat your high score, just turn on the tree lights and watch him look on in confusion as the wiimote stops doing what he tells it.

not that its something that Ninty has fckd up on, but more to do with now I can win those Wii 'Play' or 'Sports' games when playing my GF

It's not something that they ****ed up on, it's just a limitation of the technology that was well documented before the console launched.

Each Wii controller has a camera that looks at 2 infrared LEDs (in the sensor bar), and does some triangulation to figure out where you're pointing. Obviously a camera can't tell the nature of light source, other than looking at infrared light only.

I'm assuming that if it interferes with any light source producing infrared light (which is probably close to all of them), it screws up in the triangulation. There's really nothing that they can do about it, that's how the tech works, and that's how it screws up. Lesson: Don't put christmas lights near your TV if you have a Wii.

dont get me wrong, I wasnt saying they had..

my Xmas tree is right by the telly, but the reason I havent come across this yet is because we only have so many wall sockets and they are all being used for ps2/digi/tv and DvD..

I would like to thank Ryan for his idea of 'Forum Tokens'. I have since invented 'Wii Tokens' (cos the Wii is mine and allll mine

) so whenever Dillon is a very good boy i.e. letting me open a Christmas present early

or rubbing my feet after a long day, he gets a Wii token!

I'd like to say that the Wii has lived up to all my expectations, once you play, its obvious to see that you'll need a new stronger strap for it. It's a shame Nintendo aren't dishing out elbow / arm replacements - my arm is killing me since I tried to slice up some guy on Red Steel!!!
