Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel question

1st off there are going to be spoilers to this, so if you havent played Metal Gear Solid which i hope to god you have there are going to be spoilers in here.

ok so i just finished going through the Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel and at the end of it meryl lives. correct me if i'm wrong, but i was under the impression that Hideo said that the ending where meryl dies is the offical ending. so what am i missing?

plus whats the whole deal with solidus thing during that little cliffhanger at the end of the credits? it sounded like the president was solidus. but thats not right is it?

Meryl is going to be in MGS4 so she's not dead. and solidus was the president. when was the last time you played MGS2?!

so then i take it the meryl living ending was the official one?

i guess, except otacon doesn't die. he escapes a different way. in the DGN it shows them escaping all together but as far as I know you can't get an ending like that in the game.
