I don't know what kind of "massive backlogs" there are for preorders. Most retailers either greatly limited their preorders or didn't take them at all. I'd guess the majority of the second shipment went to fill preorders, but I can't imagine how much more they have left to fill...many retailers just didn't take them.

Well, the two store bestbuy stores in my area are not doing preorders. I do know someone who works for bestbuy through someone else and they said each store was supposed to get 20 PS3. The two times i called bestbuy and went there i was told the same thing by two different people, we are not getting any until after the new year. I called the wednesday before Thanksgiving and on black friday and also that Sunday and they had none. I just feel like im getting bull crap from these people. I dont know maybe they were saving them for themselves.

It wouldn't surprise me if staff (and possibly their freinds) could call first dibs.

Ben, I just thought that preorders were a big thing and that as far as I was aware, only a small percentage would have been filled due the the announced cuts in shipping number for the launch. Over here, every PS3 seller will be working on preorders. This would certainly help stop having queues around the block.

The shipment cuts certainly put a delay on filling preorders, but as far as I know, places like Best Buy and Target and Costco didn't take preorders. Toys R Us may have taken online preorders if I remember correctly, but they were extremely limited. Only GameStop/EB took PS3 preorders on October 10, and because they could only take 8-16 (depending on the store), there were a VERY low number of preorders.

And now that they've gotten their second shipment, I believe most - if not all - of their preorders are filled. I don't know what they plan over there, but if every retailer is taking preorders, that must mean PS3s won't be available for regular purchase for quite some time...

That's usually the case over here, if it came out in novermber in the UK I think the general guess was you wouldn't be able to buy off the shelf till around march.
