Default PSXE PS3 Coverage

So we all know the PS3 comes out on Friday, and provided everything works out as planned, you should all start seeing the first wave of PS3 coverage that very day. We'll have everything you need, and to get an idea of the topics we're going to cover, please take a gander at the following feature (if you haven't already):

http://www.psxextreme.com/feature/124-1.html

As we listed out the top 10 reasons to own a PS3, most of the reasons will be addressed when we go hands-on, just to see if they hold up. So from backwards compatibility to multimedia functionality to overall software diversity, we'll unveil the PS3 launch from top to bottom, as best we can.

For software, I can tell you the first three reviews will be: Ridge Racer 7, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Call of Duty 3, probably in that order. Now, if anybody has a specific game they'd like to see reviewed, or a specific aspect of the system they'd like me to check out, let me know in this thread. I'll do what I can to make it happen.

Please can you check what kinds of laptop hardrives can be used with this PS3?

Since some of us are just going to get the 20 gig version and swap out that drive for an 80 gig laptop hard drive.

Not to mention putting paid to that "memory stick is the only way to transfer media" BS from Sony.

hi.. can you clear up this multi region stuiff..

and if Vib Ribbon works on it? (lol... )

erm... thats it for now

actually.. could you also see if theres any type of ripping software for the PSX games to psp (in other words, can you use your existing games or do you have to go through the site provided), or at least what sort of 'ease' is it in order to loacte the files from the site.. having to pay for them and then downloading them? also what sort of games are on offer to download.

cheers ears

I get the feeling Vib Ribbon might not work, but I won't have any way of finding out.

As for the second thing...I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if you can put a PS1 game in the PS3 and then play it on the PSP...? If so, I'm guessing that's a "no." But I will check to see what PS1 games are available in the Store, and how easy it is to dl them.

yeh, you got it.. you know how Sony is setting up a site where we can buy PS1 games and put them on your psp as part of the new 3.00 firmware update? (plus via the PS3), i was hoping (i know.. i can dream) that because some of us still have PS1 games, i feel that i have already paid for the games.. of course it depends on how much they will charge! if its another £10-£20, i'll be a lil pissed off.

so i was wondering if there was some sort of ripping device on the ps3 that you could pop your ps1 games in and copy it?

but seems like a Bunnys dream *sigh*.

as for Vib.. you mean you dont own a copy of the fabulous Vib Ribbon? my god man!! that will be one of the first ps1 games i'll try out... tho as you have said in a previous post, i may be dissapointed!

Heh...well, to be honest, I'm not even sure Vib got a U.S. release. And if it did, it went LARGELY unnoticed.

And I'm 99% sure you're going to be disappointed...I seriously doubt you'll be able to do as you ask. Chances are, you're just going to have to download whatever they've got on the Network, and those will be playable on the PSP. Your old PS1 games HOPEFULLY should work just fine on the PS3, though.

Surely a lot of games will have to have their control scheme changed in some manner due to the lack of L2/R2 buttons on the psp?

Interesting question. I would assume so... Not sure how they're going to work that.

I think Goten was just saying that the idea of a PS1 to PSP ripper program probably wouldn't work, as the game code would need to be re-written to account for the loss of one of the analog sticks going from PS1 to PSP.
