What abilities does the PS3 have?

Will it play movies off a USB drive?

Will it play movies off either an SD card or a Memory stick.?

What about ripped movies on a PC and transfered to a USB, SD or Memory stick for reproduction on the PS3?

Is the online firmware update required or is it just like the PSPs to try and control homebrew games?

Will it run a dvd ripping app(linux)?

What about video conversion apps?

What about DVD/CD music reproduction?

Will just any mouse and keyboard work?

Well thats one or two questions that I was wondering about.

Well Russell, I can't answer all your questions but I am pretty certain that the online firmware update IS required for some of the functionalty like using the PSP as a media control.

I would doubt that just any mouse and keyboard will work; Nor do I think there will be video converting app.

I'm sure it has aleady been announced that you'll be able to rip your music to the HD, much like with the 360.

I take it you want to be able to save movies to your HD in the same way as music? I'm not too sure but I would doubt it. It's is however very possible that you may be able to dl movies and music for a fee with time out codes on them.

You'll have to wait for someone more knowledgeable to comment on the rest of your questions.

Yep.

For some strange reason it lists me as a member but when I try to post or log in it tells me wrong password.

Also I wonder how many will get an epiphany as they in that second realize that for only six hundred dollars they are getting a gameing rig that they can only obtain after spending twenty thousand dollars for an equivalent home pc or fourty thousand dollars for a laptop.(MIL-SPEC).

Then it will be:

Vista?, Vista? , ey, ese we dont need NO stincking DRM, ese.

anyway, it apparently does run Linux, I don’t know that much about it.. but everyone who knows about it is excited about it!? lol.. like I say, I don’t know much about it apart from the fact that its not windows!

the ps3 will be USB'd to the eyes.. so I figure that you will be able to do a lot of things with memory transfer.

because its fully compatible with the psp, I can imagine that there’s going to be a lot we can do with this sucka

I really doubt that linux will be as opened as it is on PC... I just don't see it fit with the Sony model (see: psp), and it wouldn't seem to benifit sony's interest at all. 'YEAH YOU CAN PLAY DIVX MOVIES THAT YOU DOWNLOADED
OFF THE INTERNETS FOR FREE - while on the PS3 os, you have to pay for them, and they are all DRMED UP!'.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. Then again, Kutaragi doesn't make any sense to me either, so it could happen.

Also: The ps3 will bring world peace, solve world hunger, but won't be able to launch nukular weapons, because there's no Sadam left to buy it.
