Talking

http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...filetypes.html

he following types of files can be played under (Video).
  • Memory Stick Video Format
  • MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
  • H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile(AAC LC)
  • MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
  • MPEG-2 PS(MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
  • MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)
http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...ideo/copy.html

Copyright-protected video files cannot be copied. Instead they can be moved (save location can be moved). If such files are moved, they will no longer exist in the original save location.
Types of video files Save destinations for video files Copy Common video files Hard disk and storage media Move Copyright-protected video files Hard disk or Memory Stick PRO™

So what if I decide to copy that movie that "cannot be copied" from my hard disc save location to the desktop;i.e.

******** movie from disc m send a copy to PC desktop.
Transfer ******* movie from desktop to memstick to be played on the PS3.

In this case I just "transfered" a movie to the memstick instead of "copying" a movie.

Sony pro is the only device for transfering files?

Hmmmmmm?

I remember when my laptop went kaput and everyone told me the data was gone unless I was able to purchase another laptop and swap hard drives.

Spend another nine hundred dollars?

Nope!

I got a nine dollar laptop hard drive to home PC adaptor and right now its where my main OS is located.(three hard drives on my pc)

So what prevents me from removing the PS3 hard drive , hooking it up inside my home PC with a nine buck adaptor and directly loading 55 gigs of media for later playback on the PS3?(after rewinserting the PS3 hard drive back into the PS3 console).

Sony mem sticks?

Ey ese, we dont need no stincking mem sticks.

Just wondering

Sorry, when I say limited to mp4 I mean because that's all anybody seems to choose cos mp2 is too big to put on memstick and with the PS3 only having 60gb HDD, it will soon get clutted, beside that you might as well put the DVD in the PS3 if you want that quality.

as for the other point, Im not sure if I know what you mean, but here's what I do for my PSP

As far as I know if you have bought an original copy of a CD, DVD, etc, you can legally make a backup for your own use.

I use a program to compress a DVD or any video files on HDD, this new compresed image can be put on disc or HDD, if it's going on my PSP it goes on HDD, this first stage is just so I can get at the information I need and do what I want with it.

I then take all or part of the image and run it through an mp4 converter, send it to the PSP and bang great quality video on my memstick, so in theory I can take that stick and play the video from anything that plays mp4s, PS3 for example, weather or not it is legal to copy that video to your PS3s HDD is another matter.

Probably a completely new type connection that nobody's ever seen before, just to be akward.

Wink

Is that so?

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/top/for...ide-214130.php

So true! I was first in line at the local yamada-denki, (from 5.30pm Friday) but the next group were a bunch of Chinese that rolled up in a big van, half of which filled the line (only five of each console) and the other half went out to another shop. Even though it was clearly stated one per customer/group/family the shop staff didn't do anything to stop them. Ive been blogging the progress at my blog http://blogger-off.com oh, and you can change the PS3 hard drive, I went for the cheaper model (who needs wireless and a card reader) and just smacked in my old 80gig laptop hard drive.

i would of thought so.... and surely it would run better and faster on a PS3? ..due to its hardware?

its like ..will GTA run better because the PS3 will be able to draw faster in terms of 'draw distance'?
