Default RIP Lik-Sang

i dont know about you guys.. but even tho i do love Sony, and what they have done for the industry...

a lil piece of me has died.

if anything (imo) lik brought the gaming community togther somewhat, and now has been killed by the very ones they helped.

tis a shame.

i havent used Lik-Sang in over a year or so, but they were always there for my gaming needs.

thing is though, unless Sony can bring down the likes of Ebay, being able to order other region games will never die, at least you could of counted on Lik-Sang..

ah well

I like Sony products but as a business I am beginning to see their arrogant shortcomings.

I never used Lik-Sang but I can see the benefit of it existing.

i know.. sad eh!

still, like sooo many UK online retailers and Play-Asia.com, Sony warned them not to sell products like PSP stuff etc, overseas and they stopped.

they are still in buisness. where Lik tried to stand up for themselves and got wiped out.

but saying all this, there is a reaction from Sony...

"In a statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony claimed, "Lik-Sang did not contest this case (i.e. they did not turn up and therefore incurred no legal costs). We have been awarded substantial costs against Lik-Sang which have not been paid."

"We would therefore strongly deny that our actions have had anything to do with this website closing (we assume the legal entity is still trading), and would suggest that this release is sour grapes on behalf of Lik-Sang which is aimed to belittle Sony Computer Entertainment and the British judicial system that found against them," the statement further reads."

so.. there you go. obviously Lik wouldnt of closed if it wasnt for the multiple cases brought against them, but on the other hand Sony did ask them not to sell PSP's when they were first released, yet Lik did.

to be honest, I know Lik-Sang did wrong, thats obvious for all to see, but i also think there wasnt anything wrong with what Lik did.. in a Robin Hood kinda way.

Alot of people are blaming sony for this takedown but they just gave the final blow, apparently microsoft and nintendo have both had ago at Lik-Sang this year, costing them money, of course sony get the blame cos they were the last one's to take action, and sony bashing does seem to be a growing trend, from what Im reading anyway.

well you guys know of GAMESTATION? well.. about ten years ago they were a fantastic shop.. they sold imports and all sorts, i was their greatest customer.

then just before the GC came out in 2000 (or was it 2001 or later??) Ninty basically said to Gamestation that if they carried on selling import games then Nintendo would never sell any products in Gamestation ever again.. so thats when Gamestation turned lame and stopped selling imports.

few years later they were brought out by Blockbusters.. and is the game shop we now know as Lamestation.

it wasnt Sony's fault...

i realise this has nothing to do with Sony or Lik, i just wanted to make the same point as Darth on the whole 'everyone has at somepoint had a go about imports'

no company is laid back on this topic.

So before the Sony issue, had Lik-Sang stopped selling import Nintendo and Microsoft machines?

no, lik were still selling.

Play-Asia was Lik's rival in the import world, they were as good as each other, both based in HK.

Then when the psp was out, I tried to order a few games from Play-Asia and they told me that they couldn’t sell me any because of Sony... so I thought, fair enough! and went back to Lik and brought loads from them instead.

From then everyone that I had previously brought import games from stopped selling Sony stuff, apart from Lik.. they were defiant!

so its not like Lik didn’t have warning after warning because everyone did.

But I guess they pushed their luck to the point where they are now closed. but as Darth said, it wasn’t all Sony... just that I guess they were the straw that broke the camels back.

But Sony were the only ones who pushed as hard. Losing the ability to export Sony products could easily shut down the company if they were reliant on that revenue.

If Microsoft had pushed enough to stop Lik from selling their stuff then that would have broken the company.

i know..weird huh!

out of M$ and Sony, i would of put money on M$ being harder on import/export...

still, just because one was harder then the other, the rules were plain and simple.. 'do not sell over seas' ....

i will miss Lik.. R.I.P

saying that tho, i wouldnt be surprised if they were raised from the dead by someone... hope so.

What reasons do the big three give for stoping imports, to keep better track of sales?
