According to BlueYonder, Sony could cut the launch price of the PS3 for it's Japanese launch to make it more competative.
I won't believe it until I read it here but I thought I'd share the rumour. It's not April 1st and I've slept through christmas is it?

TGS news story here-
http://www.psxextreme.com/scripts/ps....asp?newID=275 And they didn't specifically mention Europe, but the U.S. isn't getting that Japanese price cut- http://www.psxextreme.com/scripts/ps....asp?newID=282

Thanks guys, I must have missed the PSXE articles (even though I do go to the website before coming here
)EDIT:: I've just read this in the first PSXE article: "Furthermore, Kutaragi revealed the Japanese price tag for the aformentioned 20GB PS3: 49,999 yen (about $429), a good $70 cheaper than what it will retail for here in the U.S. The 60GB version will cost $599.99 USD, but has an "open price" in Japan, which means retailers can charge whatever they want on launch day." Open price?! That's a terrible idea. We'd have all the major retailers selling the PS3 for £1000+ knowing that with a limited number of machines they would get people to buy it.

And yeah, I'm VERY glad they're not doing that open price thing in the U.S. or Europe. But I'm not surprised they'd do it in Japan...it's just a bigger part of their culture there, and you could easily make a huge amount of money because people there are really willing to pay a giant amount......even more than in the U.S. and Europe, probably.

I beg to differ, I think the gaming monkeys here in the states are more adapt to pay out the ass for a PS3 then in Japan.

Here in the states, the 360 is a legitimate and currently favored competitor that can match the PS3 in many respects. |
