Default Will Wii Survive?

I just read an artical that made an interesting point, there's nothing to stop sony making an add-on to play games like you would on the Wii, but there's everything stopping the Wii from having the looks or the AI of PS3 and with Nintendo just anouncing that some Gamecube games are going to be re-hashed with new Wii remote controls, I roll my eyes and think "Nah not for me thanks"

I just can't help but think Wii has a reliance on a novelty that once has wore off will put Nintendo in a struggle again.

well, seeing as the PS3 has the same sort of motion sensor pad as the Wii, i think you’re right. tho I bet you a million pounds (hah.. not really ) that its not Sony that bring that sort of pad out first, bound to be a third party pad that feels cheap, lol.

so does the Wii play GC games?

im very interested in the Wii, not as much as the PS3 but much more than the 360... the only game im interested in is that Samurai game where you can hold the Katana up to someone’s throat and just hold it there by using the game pad. lol.. that looks brilliant to me.

but is it better than the Eye Toy Tech? I don’t think so. for me the EyeToy technology is the bravest thing to come out of gaming in years. its just so untapped in the current console, and after seeing what plans they have for the PS3, I know THATS the console for me.

Its cool that Nintendo are also thinking outside of the box too. we need more of this.

I remember when playing on my Spectrum and dreaming of the day that graphics were as good as real life, and here we are.. its happening. so what next? its got to be virtual reality.

years ago you would strap on a helmet and stand in a barrierd circle playing some dodgy FPS in Vecxtor graphics in some expensive arcade. But that died a horrible horrible death in the 80s.

so with these new pads that Sony and Nintendo are making and with the Eye Toy in mind, at least the Japanese are driving the industry forward.

I hope the Wii doesn’t die, I REALLY want Nintendo to do well on this one, the GC deserved so much more than it got.

Im not sure anymore, I keep reading different articals that say yes and no.

I don't want Wii to die either, good competition is healthy as we know, but thats the thing, is the Wii good competition.

It's fully backwards compatible with the GC.

I don't see why it should completely fail. I don't see it being a massive success either (out of Japan at least). At best, it'll bring N64 numbers.

What was it... the Virtual Boy?

I remember everything was red.

But I am very interested in how the whole Wii concept will work out, and I don't think it will fail, thanks to the nintendy fan boyz.

The price will make it appealing to most people, for a while, but it will nontheless.

With the route Nintendo is going they seem to be catering to nostalgia to me. The most exciting things about the Wii besides the controller will be the fact you can play all the classic Nintendo games, and now they are re-releasing old gamecube games that work with the new Wii controller. Milk that cow Nintendo milk it good.

The way it work is you can play GC games but not with the Wii-mote, just the traditional one they have for the Wii if I'm correct and that's where this gimmick of bringing GC games with Wii controls comes in.
If you take away the fact you can play older Nintendo games it really takes the wind outta the Wii's sails for me. The controller is too gimmicky for me, but it beats the hell outta that horrible GC controller I guess...yuk.

I find the Wii remote a bit gimmicky also, give me some sort of lightsaber game and we'll talk, but then after half an hour I'll probably still get bored with the novelty. I hope we can use the PS3 controler like a stearing wheel on Formula one, that would keep me happy for years.

You know, you could spin your speech to all other consoles, because they're all offering a gimmick in their controller (I guess vibration is a gimmick) and all offer a service to download and play older games.

Not really... The motion in the PS3 pad is kinda gimmicky but can and will survive without it and IS the best console controller there is. yes you can download old games but they are for the PSP not the console itself. Wii is betting everything on their controller, Wii-making GC titles just to play them with the Wii-mote? Come the **** on...Do you see Sony or Microsoft remaking any old games to use with the new controller? No, just BC with the old games, not digging up every single title they ever made.

The 360 controller is basically a rip off of the PS controller tweaked enough not to be a straight copy. But still better than any of the Nintendo controllers in the past few generations. I will admit that the SNES had almost the perfect layout but then Sony came and (tweaked the SNES controller) added all the necessary adjustments to make it perfect. I.E. analog sticks and vibration.
