Just because the company producing the lasers is having problems with mass production doesn't mean Sony isn't ready for their launch and that the PS3 itself is having problems.

They didn't say we can't produce as many machines as predicted because the PS3 isn't working properly. They can't produce as many as they thought because they can't get the lasers they need. That's the bottom line.

It was reported back on 8-31-06 by PS3 Informer that Sony would have problems reaching their goal due to this reason, although Sony didn't say anything at that time about it... 7 days later and blamo! Sony dropped the bomb.

Sony is in a world of hurt, they need to do things right, this will be real interesting to see how how few people play a ps3 system this year...

lol... well going by that then, there will be very very few indeed. with just 400.000 going to the US, probably twice that for JP (?) and NONE to Europe (grrr)... probably just over a million. not a lot really.

actually, that sounds a lot.

but I dont think it will be that many. tho I have no doubts that the PS3 will be as strong as the other Playstations, just that its going to take a couple of years to show.
Sony must be sure about something, because its not like they have rushed the PS3, which i am glad about.

Well the only thing I know for sure is that I will have one... plus a free extended warranty through my job, just in case. I'm sure everything will work just fine though since my PS2 was was bought launch day and I never had one problem with it.

I just re-traded in my pS2 yesterday and about 20 games and got about 230+ credit plus another $120 I already had down anyway. Although Lego Star Wars and VCS will eat at it. Maybe even Socom but I might hold off for a used copy.

I'm trading Ultimate G&G and LCS in tomorrow (even more credit) since Loco Roco and Lego:SW2 are gonna drain my time until VCS comes out.

As far as the quanities, they still said they aim to have 2 million by Dec so hopefully they get the job done.

EDIT: Just checked my numbers, actually only 1 million to 1.2 million by Dec. They said supposedly 6 million by end of fiscal '07.

Even though 500,000 (launch amount) is still more units than the 360 launched with.

We'll I thought I'd update this a bit.

400k U.S., 100k Japan on Launch. Another 1 million between launch and dec.31st shipped through Air-mail. So hopefully "when" the 1st launch batch goes like crazy it looks like Sony is gonna keep churning them out to have enough in store shelves for the holidays.

Also all the 20 gig models have been announced to have HDMI ports added to them, and in Japan only for some reason the 20 gig model price has dropped from $515 USD to $429 USD. So far no announcement if the US will also see this sort of move but from the most recent info I read it seems the pricing model in the US in unchanged. Still $499 20 gig/$599 60 gig. :sad:

Also a little side note... it seems the Wii won't be the only system having downloadable Sega games. In a interview which I can't find now he let it slip and when Sega/Sammy was contacted instead of the usual we don't respond to rumors statement, they said something of the nature that these products haven't been announced at the time and would disclose more info in the future, which pretty much confirms "some" kind of deal is in fact underway.
