The ps3 is an awesome deal. Anyone that thinks otherwise is stupid. However, it's an awesome deal if you want to use all of its features... If you aren't, then it's overkill.

I never doubted that the PS3 price was an awesome deal. I really don't think HD-DVD will take off. However, I believe that Blu-ray will have a slow start but eventually will replace the DVD.
w00t, I'm back yet again. Been quite busy. And college starts on wednesday, so I will probably still be busy. But, I will make time for PSXE. BTW, I like the make-over.

I'm actually looking forward to PS3's hi-def Blue-Ray capabilities. 50% of my TV watching is HDTV these days, it tends to spoil me. Since DVDs are by far inferior to HDTV, whevever I rent a DVD, it looks like standard TV.
I dont know if I am the only one in this boat, but when you can get better quality video from your cable TV than a DVD, I think thats a sign that its time to move on to better medium, be it Blue-Ray or HD-DVD. My 2 cents. |

As I said, if you're fully equipped and know what HD means and looks like, you're probably going to get an awesome deal out of it. But for the majority of the people - I still think it's overkill - unless the HD numbers change drastically in the next two years (which is what sony is banking on, of course).

When they only have 2 million units for North America, why try to appeal to the masses (10 million+) with lower pricing? They can't supply so many anyway. But targetting the tech-savvy with disposable incomes lets them keep the price higher and avoid the whole price inflating scenario at eBay. It sucks for those people that just want to play games and don't need Blu-Ray, but that is how Sony is going to differentiate themselves this time. If you want just games, you get a Wii, if you got a little more to spend you get X360. As I said in the past, I bet we will see a price decrease within 12 months of PS3's release thanks to more supply being available. |

I don't think it's a case of us punters needing blu-ray, developers need it to put bloody big stonking games on.

The #1 reason Sony made PS3 a Blue Ray player is to push yet another one of their mediums into the mainstream. Think BetaMax, UMD, MiniDisc, now Blue-Ray. Its where the big money is for these big electronics companies.
If they are successful at making Blue-Ray as popular as DVDs are, Sony will make a ton of money by collecting royalties from other companies that make anything with a "Blue-Ray" logo on it, including players, movies, games, etc. |

I think its gonna take 12 months for Sony to prove to me that they have a winning product and to make me onboard with it. So thats fine if it takes a while for them to do some things and make their product more avaialbe to the general public. The games are what id be interested in and if there arent several quality titles then it wont really matter what else the system can do; Since gaming is a lot more than just smooth graphics and glitz, at least it is to me...
