Default Did anyone get a DSLite today?

... basically I wasn't 100% satisfied with the PSP as a handheld system (too many few unique, handheldy games in my opinion), and I was longing for more.

Then they announced the DSLite price, which is pretty damn good, really. So I bought it today. What a sexy hardware. Really, this looks like Apple designed it, it's glossy white, it's comfortable, and it's pretty fun to play with.

The screen brightness is AWESOME. If you were impressed by the PSP's, the highest lighting level in this one will impress even more. It's bright enough to play outside on a sunny day, and you can actually see the screen more than your own face.

I bought it with New Super Mario Bros (finally a new 2D mario. How long did we have to wait - 10 years?), and Brain Age for the girlfriend (although I have to admit that it's kinda fun).

Overall I give the DSLite hardware a 4.5 out of 5.

You're gonna have to get your PSP back with MGS: PO coming out. (FYI, sequel to MGS3)

I played a lot of DS and was incredibly turned off.

I still have my PSP, and MGS:PO is exactly the type of game why I'm underwhelmed by it. I don't want to play PS2 games on a handheld. Maybe you do, but I don't. It's probably one of those games I'll be playing, and wonder all along why I'm not playing MGS3 instead. Mind you, I'll probably still get it. Loco Rocco and Super Ghouls and Ghosts, on the other hand, will make me a happy camper.

Anyway that's besides the point. Let's continue our DSLite is awesome discussion. The battery life seems pretty solid, as I've been playing it for hours, which is always a plus.

PS: I had that Donkey Kong game & watch. My first videogame system ever.

Nintendo has screwed me over way too many times with handhelds (by constantly releasing minor upgrades every two years) making my previous one inferior. That's the case with my DS, where I absolutely hate its dark screen, and there's no way I'm going to spend $60-$130 on a new version that should have been there in the first place, so meh.

I really don't mind; however, the type of games I buy for my PSP are sequels or new versions to games, I liked on PS1/PS2, like Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal, etc.

I would rather play PS2 games (read: console quality) on a handheld than crappy handheld games.

Agreed. At least there's no Elf Bowling on PSP.

You must have a different definition for crappy than I do, because both DS and the PS2 have a fairly big share of crappy games. A great game is a great game, regardless of the platform it's on.

Also barret: That's why you wait for the revision (as I did). I learned with the GBA, and swore never to buy a first revision Nintendo handheld ever again. I knew they would have to replace that ugly DS piece of shit in the light of the psp's sexiness, sooner or later. I'm glad it was sooner than later, because the library is definitely appealing nowadays.

But I disgressed. Resume your hating of anything not sony.

My definition of crappy is games that lack longevity. Granted, there are portable games that have longevity. And I will also grant that consoles and handhelds alike have their fair share of rotten eggs. But there is no disputing the superiority in that aspect (among others) of consoles over handheld systems. The closer handhelds can get to their console big brothers the better. I am not saying they should all be ports, however. I am just saying they should be as complete as their counterparts.

And I am not doing fanboyism at all. I merely used PS2 as an example. I did say console quality which, correct me if I am wrong, does not imply only Sony.
