Reason I say this is because it was Syphon filter that brought us sneaking in third person.. shooting out lights and torturing people with tazers (lol).

im not saying that Konami wouldn’t of had MGS sneaking or that Splinter cell wouldn’t of had shooting out lights if it wasn’t for SF ..in the same way that Sony didn’t steal the motion sensor idea from Nintendo.

but syphon filter could of been better than MGS if they had just kept on the ball after SF2. but SF3 was good but wasnt received as well as the first 2, and Omega strain.. well I wish it had never been made.

now with Dark Mirror it has a chance to redeem itself.

I do agree how ever that MGS is the daddy, just an amazing series of games, but I wonder if they would of been the MGS games that we know if it wasn’t for SF?
How, exactly, did Syphon Filter and shitty 989 Studios influence MGS?

Wait, I can answer that- they didn't.

989 did pretty much suck. The Syphon Filter games and the first couple NFL Gamedays were pretty much the only things they ever did that were any good.

And yeah, I have no idea where Dillion was going with his SF influenced MGS theory .

ok, I know that MGS was way before SF.. in terms of being on the Nintendo. had those games on my GBA emu

but that was top down commando type gameplay. MGS only entered the 3D world on the Playstation.

where as on the PS1, SF took you in to the third person environment. seeking missions, action missions... using fun tech tools, shooting out lights. death slides, the array of weapons for Gabe to use, having female spy’s slide up against you, and see Gabe decline their wants. and again I have to say.. to keep on the tazer button until your foe is in flames, running around and screaming their head off.. ahh, fun fun times

….and then there’s the multiplayer side of things... worked fantastically well. Especially on SF2

so "How, exactly, did Syphon Filter and shitty 989 Studios influence MGS"

I think I have just answered it.

basically SF imo showed people that a secret agent could be more than a top down platformer with objectives. Imo SF didn’t make MGS or SC the way they are, I merely think that it had some sort of influence over the two, however small that might of been.

And so I do wonder that IF Syphon Filter had never been made, I wonder what MGS or SC would look like now, or back then.

so many eliments that are used in SC and MGS of today were a first for SF. again im not saying that Splinter Cell STOLE the idea of shooting out lights to increase the cover of darkness but SF did, and it was the first game to do that.

Dillon, the FIRST Syphon Filter came out over a YEAR later than the first MGS. MGS came out in March of 1998, and the first Syphon Filter came out in December of 1999.

You are WRONG. End of story.

True character is admitting when one is wrong. You are WRONG, my friend. SF in no way influenced MGS. It didn't even have the chance. If anything, MGS influenced SF.

989 Studios was SHIT, and they literally copied everything they put in their games, whether it was Syphon Filter or something else.

If anything 989 copied Kojima. End of story. It's not even arguable, really.

edit: still I was right about the shooting out of lights.

Damn I was wrong. just looked it up 1998 Vs 1999. shit, I wished I had looked that up before I started my rant!

Yeah it came out a year later, which is why everyone gave it the undeserved "MGS Knockoff" tag that I addressed in one of my earlier posts.

I do agree with you that the taser was awesome (electrocuting people until the catch fire is way more fun that it has any right to be. Espeically those silly scientists.) , as was the SF2 multiplayer that my friend and I wasted far too many hours on.

lol, yeh... I was wrong! haha.... not that im not usually wrong, I just thought I was right. but I wasn’t

the Tazer was my fav tool. that and the grenade launcher in multiplayer on SF2. Remember that park map, where there was almost a maze of hedges... you could stand on a low hedge in a far corner and just fire grenades off at random places until you almost hit your mate ..then hone in somewhat. was such a good crack.

I just preferred it to MGS in a big way. tho when MGS2 came out and SF was no more then I changed my tune.

still, I cant think of any multiplayer on any game I have played apart from GTA on the psp with a multiplayer mode that was as fun as SF2.

Haha, the gernade launcher in the park was cool as hell! That's the map and weapon that my buddy and I used for most of our matches.

lol... me too. the best bit was that if youre not cheating and only looking at your bit of the screen, you cant see the person youre trying to kill.. then depending who you have chosen to be character wise.. you can hear them talk.

so you would be hiding behind a hedge, not knowing where the other person is, when you hear "I cant feel my legs".. lol... thats when you jump out and BAM! haha

i loved it. I dont think there has been a multiplayer in a game like that since. its a shame really, but they got it so right. if only they had stuck to making that better rather than trying to revamp the whole thing.

wasnt Omega strain online? there was something about it that they changed that really fukd it. should of kept to the original formula... and Gabe!

looking forward to MGS3 Substance now tho! thats out soon over here, should be good!
